Got a CZ 600+ LUX in 7.62x39. Guns definitely designed to meet a fast paced "European Driven Hunt" kindov vibe. Its got a mini action length 60 degree throw bolt, a perfectly placed tang safety and super light "Tikka like" trigger. The center piece feature of the LUX model is undeniably the fiber optic floating iron sights. Best ive ever witnessed and ultimately why i bought the gun. The sight radius is only 9.5", so once again likely designed around that close range Driven Hunt vibe.
Last year I mounted a generic LPVO nice and low on it. It was an excellent 200m hunting setup, but it also felt like a waste to not have the irons available for anything other then an emergency (quick detach rings). So i thought id be cool develop an optic setup that doesnt obstruct the irons. Featured in the pics is just 3D printed prototypes, the final examples will be CNC'ed Aluminum. Mounts are designed to accommodate the Primary Arms Prisms, this particular one is the 5x .223/.308 Aurora. Was tempted to get the 3x 7.62x39 model, but wanted more zoom.
Setup one is the method I like the most, very SVD like in that the optic hangs off the left side around .400". Shooter has a light cheek weld. Easier to machine, looks less janky IMO. Unfortunately A LOT of shooters cant stand horizontally offset optics, each to their own.
Setup 2 has the optic centered over the bore, but it probably sits roughly .400" higher then the lowest of optic setups. Resulting in more of a jaw bone / chin weld. Looks off and on very janky from certain angles lol. More annoying to machine.

For me it's a no. Can't stand the way the prosm scope is so so far back and think it wrecks the look of the rifle.
But rather than just criticize, I'll try to be helpful and offer some solutions
Solution 1. See through rings and a different scope. Might take some playing to get rings that you can see under and still see the low profile sights, and it might also raise the scope higher than you like. However it does pretty good when you get it working. I have this on an old wood stock 22 with a plain 3-9 scope. It's a comfy height to shoot the scope, and all you need to do to shoot the irons is lean a little further forward and down on the gun to see under the scope. Very comfy Scope postioning, medium comfort irons.
Solution 2. Offset scope. I did this when experimenting with a 7.62 x39 CX 600 Trail oddly enough. Basically you throw 2 offset adaptors. I used low profile 45 degree ones. I set the scope off to the left side, but still had it directly up and down, Like a SVD Scope. This made the Irons INCREDIBLY accessible, and since I uses low profile 45 degree offset adaptors, should let you use even the lowest Iron sights. As far as using the scope? I actually found it pretty decent to use. Slight adjustment in how I held the gun, but still decently comfy cheek weld. And this was with the piddly cz trail stock. I imagine the nice solid wood of the Lux would be even comfier. Might be worth even looking at a 90 degree adaptor to get the scope lower still. Only problem will be if they make them that work with the Lux. Im not sure what kind of mounting system they have. Very comfy irons use, medium comfort scope use. If you really really want to use your irons a lot, and can't handle the Offset, I'd choose this.
And of course, solution 3, the Quick attach scope. Honestly the best in regards to enjoying the scope and enjoying the irons, I use this on my cz 557 that is set up with a peep sight and irons and a 4-12 scope. Great for the range, you just take the scope off and set it to the side and enjoy the irons. Great if you are planning to take it out somewhere pretty thick so you just leave the scope at home. Great if you are out and realize your scope is broken ( but sadly not quick enough that you can swap and still get the shot) ultimately the best of both worlds but you can't do both at the same time. How much that matters to you, I don't know. I know I've certainly been glad on my 22. I must have pumped it mid hunt, and realized my shots were off. So when I saw a grouse, I aimed using the see through and could still hit it. After of course retightened the scope and rezeroed. Probably would have been just as fine with a quick detach though.
I appreciate all the feedback. The see thru rings with a quality low profile scope was my original pursuit. But unfortunately nobody seems to make direct fit REM 700 pattern rings like that anymore (I dont blame them, its pretty niche lol). So the only options that left was 1913 mount see thru rings that would likely obstruct the irons, or machining something myself.
Another altogether different system ive been wanting to make for the rifle is a SVD side rail mount. So owners could equip SVD optics that would accomplish the same task.... but also pandering to the extreme minority that enjoy using those lol.
Here it is! Quickly thrown together, if I was planning on keeping it this way, I would move it back further and move the iron sights forward, basically swap their places. As is, it needs to be moves back a little to get the proper eye relief. Using Non QD low rings would also reduce the amount of stuff sticking out. But it's surprisingly comfortable to aim, and swapping between irons and scope is dead easy, a slight turn of the head. If I was doing it personally, I'd just zero it and know that the bullet will hit like 2 inches to the right of the reticle. At further distance, it would be negligible, and it would be easy to account for up close.
That’s a tough one, specially if you’re wanting something to put on the market.
If it’s personal use, then it’s whatever fit you best. If it’s planned to market, I kind of think the inline mount would be an easier sell.
I know I wouldn’t mind an offset mount though, specially since it’d fit the whole ‘europeanness’ of the rifle. Once a guy gets used to the offset I don’t think it’d be any different than adjust for range. 🤷🏽♂️
Cool project. I feel as though you’re creating a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist. It’s a no for me.
In the rare instance I’ve had an optic break or go down, I’ve never needed to quickly switch to irons or remove the optic.
I have headed back to camp and used my tools to remove a damaged optic, and went back out with my irons.
It’s a beautiful rifle chambered in an anemic cartridge.
I would just mount a quality scope 3-9 or 4-16, and keep an Allen key set nearby if you’re worried about needing the irons.
I kindov expected i was mainly serving myself with this idea and that maybe a dozen or so others in the world would want one lol. Figured id probe here to confirm my beliefs. Might share the finished result on a few CZ groups to see how small the niche may be.
Its pretty negligible in most scenarios outside of maybe PRS and other extreme target shooting scenarios. If zeroed perfectly at 100m, itl hit .400" left at 200m, 1.2" at 400m and less then 2 inches at 500m.
I did something similar, i have a russian po4x24p with 7.62x39 bdc input it on my 7.62x39 cz now since they banned my type81, you can go pcbway or rapid direct to make your mount out of metal
From a machining standpoint, are you trying to make these mounts with a 3 axis mill or 4 or 5 axis machine?
From an aesthetic standpoint I actually like the second mount more, but practically and user usability should be first and foremost with any gear.
Is there no way to make a long eye relief scout rifle styled optic mount that has a witness hole milled through it to allow for the use of the iron sights?
Ive got the same gun in 30-06... its just a nice quality hunting rifle and deserves a quality scope to go on it. I went with a leo 4-9. The irons are cool but your over thinking it lmao get an optic that will maximize the cartridge & barrel length, its really that simple.
