Announcement [Announcement] Rule 14 Third Party Peer to Peer Platform Disputes
Hello r/canadaguns
We've recently been seeing an uptick in people coming to the sub to complain about other users' listing or selling/buying practices, or complaining about prices, including what other users are asking for or paying for items, on third-party P2P sites like GP. This has also resulted in an increased workload for the moderators, including modmail from users seeking to dispute these posts.
If you have an issue with a transaction, listing, buyer, or seller on a third-party platform, please use that platform's reporting, feedback, messaging, or moderation systems where applicable. The mods aren't in a position to investigate or adjudicate transactions that took place off of the subreddit, and trying to do so generally leaves us with only one side of the story and limited ability to verify what happened.
Similarly, disagreements over the price someone is asking for an item generally aren't something the mod team can step in to resolve. P2P marketplaces are going to have listings at different prices, and users are free to decide whether they want to buy, sell, negotiate, or pass on a particular listing.
We'll therefore be removing posts that are primarily intended to air these kinds of third-party marketplace disputes or price complaints.
Note that this rule only applies to peer to peer marketplaces, you are free to continue discussions of retailers as you have already.

That would be covered under the "issue with a listing" portion of the rule, unfortunately. We'd appreciate it if you just blocked them and moved on rather than taking it to r/canadaguns but I won't tell you what to do on that third party site, as long as it stays over there.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be so bad if we wouldn’t see their dang ads after we blocked them on GP. Wish it worked that way. Didn’t the last time I tried anyhow

This is the type of thing that ought to be directed at the third party sites themselves. Most if not all have a form for feedback and complaints.

Nah don’t worry I understand why you guys are going this way. My comment was more about the inability to block ads rather than complain about this new rule.

This is big "sits to pee" energy.
The posts TVS is talking about has no relation or expectationa of the mod team intervention to solve the price issue.
We just wanna meme on our of touch guess that know what they got.
Seems like the snowflakes that make our gun laws are leeching into the subs rules too.

I mod a sub of over 800k. We initiated a similar rule because the volume of complaints was just too high. it also was a negative impact on the overall 'feel' of the sub.
Mods, you will probably get some flack for this choice but it is the correct one.

I agree its probably the correct choice. But the negative overall feel of our country's gun community is truly an accurate reflection and the scalpers/uninformed buyers make it worse!

between the following 3 issues:
1) gov't trying to criminalize owning guns
2) scalpers and resellers
3) fresh off the boat gun owners
we could have an entire sub dedicated to those things.
ya, its just better to not have them always front and centre in a place people are trying to enjoy their firearm ownership

Nobody is asking or even thinks fucking reddit mods of all people can or should do anything about it.
This is a forum for canadian firearm owners to discuss firearms. Whether that be using them, collecting them, working on them, or buying them. Posts about the state of the secondhand market should absolutely be allowed on this sub.
