Feets / Collection / My build Semi-auto .22lr reliability
What would you say is the most reliable semi auto .22lr on our market, and using what combo of ammo and magazines? I recently picked up an SBI ST22 and a few TUFF 22 magazines, working on figuring out what kind of ammo they like. Also, share your .22s

Most .22LRs out there can be made reliable with certain mods and HV ammo, to be fair.
The one thing that can't be improved easily, however, is the magazine design.
The most reliable .22LR semi of all time is probably a Gevarm, as there are 3 moving parts: trigger, sear, and bolt. No extractors, no moving firing pins, no nothing whatsoever. Reversible guide rod that changes the bolt mass for HV/SV rounds. The firing wedge contacts the primer at two points instead of one, decreasing the chances of a misfire due to unevem primer spread.

Funny enough my regular TM22 has not jammed on me ever. I’ve put all brands of standard velocity as well as some HV stuff, runs flawlessly.
I just picked up a KR22 and put a SBI 597 adapter on it. It did not run very good initially, but with a little filing on the extractor and some extra spring pressure it will run cci sv and blazer pretty well now

TM22 has also been crazy reliable for me with random bulk ammo. Light strike now and then, but for the most part it will eat all of it. Remington Golden bulk ammo has been good, CCi blazer (bulk pack), and even the federal 500 round bulk packs have ran. Bought some Winchester 1000 round pack at Canadian tire, it’s a little waxy but i will see how it goes. If it doesn’t work out it will be food for the Cooey.

Avoid Aguila 22lr. Runs really dirty and builds up carbon fast, causing light strikes and jams

I avoid blanket statements about what works in .22s. Barrel matching to ammo is a weird voodoo, even in the same model of gun.

He's right though it does run extremely dirty. I bought 4000 of them and it's by far the dirtiest ammo I've ever purchased.

Aguila Super Extra (40gr copper coated ones) jams like crazy in my 10/22.
I found Federal AutoMatch to work well in my short barrel 10/22 and TUF-22 magazines.

Yo, same here on my Cz 457 and gsg 1911. Really dirty. Basically forced to clean the gun every time I take it to the range

My 10/22 has never jammed. That being said, low velocity (eg CCI quiet) doesn't have enough oomph to eject properly so I've never used it in this gun.
If you like minimags, look into the AR Tactical ones. If I understand correctly, they are 40gr minimags but with a slightly different shape that cycles better in semi-autos. They are slightly less accurate than SV in most guns (ie if I ever manage to get into a Mapleseed course near me I won't be using them).

Nice rig, that looks great dude! As for most reliable combo, I'd say a quality 10/22 build with the ammo it likes using OEM Ruger 10rnd mags.
Blazer and CCI SV are the only 22LR I buy in bulk now. I used to get whatever was cheapest with the exception of Winchester white box or Remington. I decided it wasn't worth it risking the reduced reliability to save a couple bucks and I've been much happier since. My TM22 and 10/22 takedown both eat CCI SV or blazer without complaint.
More often than not I think mag loading technique or shite ammo is to blame. My 22/45 (probably over 10k rounds now) rarely jams when I load it but my buddy has issues if he does. I had success with the Tuff-22 mags using the technique shown in this video, granted I usually only loaded 20 rather than 25. One perk to the TM22 is the mags don't require any refined technique to load. Don't forget your mags need love (cleaning) too though. when you say you usually only load 20, is that because loading to 25 was casing issues, or just for convenience?

Bit of both. I bought 4 mags and an extra pack of clips. I felt it was worth the compromise given how quick/easy they were to reload with my DIY speed loader. To answer your question on the 10/22 sub - I would recommend an A2 bird cage as way to protect your crown from damage. Any muzzle device with small ports will eventually get obstructed by lead fouling which is super toxic and difficult to remove.

Good to know, thank you. And I actually have put an A2 birdcage on it since that photo was taken: I wanted something on the muzzle, and I didn't want to be that guy who throws a muzzle brake on a damned .22lr

I have never had a miss fire or jam with my ruger 10/22. Pair that with an Archangel stock and you got yourself a cope rifle thru and thru.
My brother has a TM22 and it misfires once every mag

Are you using the standard 10 round rotary magazine? Because those are reliable. Most people use larger mags and adapters to use Remington 597 mags since Ruger mags that hold more than 10 were made prohibited, and those are not as reliable.

That's why you're not having any jams. The rotary mags get around the probelm of rimmed cartridges having trouble feeding in a regular magazine.

Never been able to get those TUFF22 mags to work. All sorts of ammo, an SBI receiver, nothing works. Tried calling the manufacturer a year or so ago and got told that a wonky batch got released and some people have had more issues than others with them. Was recommended that i start swapping all sorts of parts out to try and make them work.
Needless to say they now collect dirt in the bottom of my parts case.

Unfortunately no, that part is made by SBI but I had to buy it separately. I used it to mount the QD adapter for the sling to it, so that it would be out of the way of my hand.

Also, to be NR your gun needs to be 26" OAL when folded. Might want to get your measuring tape out.
