Buy recommendations Gunpost
Buying on gunpost, how do you guys get more peace of mind? Looking at buying a rifle and the guy is not close so I’m gonna have to get it shipped. His reviews are all good, has a bunch. Just wondering if anyone has anymore tips?

Never had a bad experience. If it feels like a scam it probably is.
Reviews are also moderated so you can know they’re real. Ask for more pictures for peace of mind.
Worst case contact RCMP if you get screwed over. Do a charge back through your bank. But realistically use common sense and it won’t happen

Not sure if this helps but I’ve bought and sold probably more than 30+ firearms alone on gunpost. I haven’t experienced a single issue with shipping items and receiving them myself. As long as the person has good reviews and is trustworthy you’re more likely than not going to be fine. It makes no difference than when ordering from a gunshop online. Essentially once the firearm is with canadapost or the courier it’s now the liability of them (not the seller) to get it to you safely (this is normal everywhere). You could pay for insurance for more peace of mind but honestly I never have.

A lot of people thinks that's how it works but it isn't. Legit vendors will even tell you that's how it works and that you should pay extra for insurance; it's a lie to try and offload costs and risk to you. The seller is typically still liable till the item is delivered.
If the seller contacted the shipping company the seller continues to be responsible for delivery to you till it's delivered. The shipping company has a responsibility to the person who contacted them (eg the seller) to get the item delivered.
If the item is never delivered the seller has not fulfilled their contact to the buyer and is liable to the buyer. The shipping company would also be liable to the seller for not fulfilling their contact.
The exception to this would be if the buyer contacted their own shipping company to pick the item up. Then the seller is off the hock once the buyers agent picks the item up.

Ask the guy to make a very specific video and text it to you
In my case, it was a written timestamp with his username on a piece of paper visible while he racked a few dummy rounds through the rifle
That way you at least know that the firearm is real

If they have a buncha good reviews then your good to go. You can ask for collateral info like maybe a photo of their ID or somthing but then the argument could be made that it looks sketchy on your end asking for somthing like that unless you specify that its your first time and you just want some kind of "collateral information " but i wouldn't do that personally. Ultimately if you dont feel comfortable then thats on you to not carry on purchasing privately online

Reach out to the seller with questions. If they respond promptly and gives good vibes (i.e. not a bot, scammer, whatever), that's probably the best you can do given the nature of gunnpost. Especially if you ask for more pictures for example and they happily give it to you, then that's a good sign.

I'll speak to the integrity of the firearm itself rather than the seller. Improperly reloaded ammo or bad cleaning practices are the easiest ways to actually damage a gun. I'd inquire if he's a reloader, which is more common with long range/PRS or high volume competition shooters. I'd also ask to see close up photos of the crown (checking for damage from carless cleaning), bolt lugs, hammer face, recoil guide rods, or other high wear areas to get an idea of how many rounds the gun has seen.
There are also areas of concern specific to particular models and even years, much like vehicles. For example an old Remington 870 Wingmaster would make an excellent classic style pump action shotgun. An 870 Express from the Freedom Group era will rust if you look it the wrong way. Some Rem 700s were part of a trigger recall, etc. Then there is the common sense element of it. IE a heavily customized TM22 Feather (polymer receiver) is much more likely to have been damaged during the process compared to the all aluminum model TM22.
I'd encourage you to do some research on common failure points, production year issues, etc. on the firearm you're planning to buy. Then ask the seller for pictures or info that can indicate whether you should be concerned.

The rifle itself is brand new and never fired, long as he’s honest there which so far he’s given no reason to doubt, I’m not worried about that aspect.
I did ask for extra pictures with time stamps and date to get a bit better idea.

Look at reviews. If they are good and he is quick to respond you are probably good. I’ve bought 50 or more items from Gunpost with zero issues ever.

For extra peace of mind, you can do COD (collect on delivery) for payment with Canada post. The seller will get paid through Canada Post when you pick up the firearm.

Nah, I would never accept COD as a payment method from a buyer, and I wouldn’t offer it either when I’m buying. EMT payment before shipping.
Just wait to send the EMT until after they do the license verification for some extra piece of mind.

Fair enough, I’ve only ever offered it to someone who was new to buying a gun remotely through gunpost. I always send the EMT to sellers when they have a solid rating.
