Beginner looking for advice on buying a Mossberg 590A1 online

Hi everyone,

I’m new to firearms. I recently got my license and went to a range to try out a few different guns. I’d like my first firearm to be a Mossberg 590A1 (the basic model; as a white belt in firearms I probably am not ready for upgrades like Magpul furniture, etc.).

I’m going to buy online because the closest local shops are 5–6 hours away, and none of them have the 590A1. There is a reddit post that lists all major gun shops in Canada. I've narrowed my options down to these: RDSC, GoTenda, Firearms Outlet Canada, G4C, and Reliable Guns. My requirements are as follows: Excellent customer service and communication (esp after sale, how they handle problems and warranty issues), integrity (won't send me a returned/used gun), good packaging and safe shipping.

Most of them offer free shipping since the price is over $500. RDSC charges around $20 for shipping, but I don’t mind paying a little extra if they have a better reputation for customer service and overall reliability. The 590A1's price also varies by roughly $10–$30 between these retailers, but that is okay.

Please share your thoughts as to where I should buy from. Thank you!

I’ve bought a lot from Tenda and RDSC. Never had any issues with either.

On a side note, you probably don’t need a 590A1. You can just get a 590 and save some money, unless you plan on using your gun as a pry bar.

I have used RDSC several times. No issues. Always get what I order on time. Generally one of my go to shops laitly.

I bought it as my first shotgun too. It's a good shotgun, but it's heavy. It's really more for random blasting not really that practical.

For day-to-day use, it's overbuilt.

It isn't well suited for clays or skeet since most models don't have interchangeable chokes and the barrel is too short.

For dynamic shotgun competitions, it's the same thing heavy and the lack of chokes and the pump action make it uncompetitive.

If you want something more versatile, look at a Beretta 1301, the 1301 Comp Pro, or a Mossberg 88/500 field and security combo. Benelli M2 and Benelli Nova too.

They're much more flexible than the 590A1.

I would avoid the the M4 as well, same reasons as above, it's a military shotgun, nice to own but not practical to use.

I buy 90% of my stuff from FOC. I’m in Sask and have stuff within a week everytime. They’ve always been good to me. I really like their rewards program. And you usually get a sticker with your order 👌
