Feets / Collection / My build My homebrew 10/22 carbon barrel turned out ok

So I been doing some experimenting with barrel building in the last month, since im an engineer and not an machinist I had a machine shop cut the components on my design, put together with 3m structural epoxy, did chambering and crowning on a vevor mini lathe and cut the extractor groove with a old horzontal mini mill, rifling came from button rifled liner if you are wondering

I mount it in sbi's st22 lite and gets .5" 10 shot grouping at 50 yrds with ccisv, so right around 1moa mark, which is surprising because I designed the thing to be ultra light and didn't actually put much thought on making it accurate.

There is a shortage of good Canadian made barrels for the 10/22 since DLASK closed. It would be nice to have a new Canadian manufacturer of 10/22 parts.

I am honestly surprised not a major US brand has not set up a shop here. The business would boom.

That said, MDT did say they want to make them a one stop shop for building custom rigs and now they have Lone Peak for actions. Barrels are the last piece of the puzzle and wouldn't be surprised if they were working on that.

Ibi is mdt's sister company, i think they are just not that into rimfire

Problem is labour cost, taxation, tariff, hard to get tooling and material and most importantly unstable law, the market is also small enough to be dominated by a handful big players.

Didn't know that was a thing. Been using both for years and never saw any mention of it.

Is lone peak really good?

yes. I know this graphic is dated from 2024 but still stands. MDT has spent years building and maintaining their reputation for turning out quality gear. They aren't about to put an inferior product under their banner.

Also as far as Canada goes, i'll take any access to the custom action market i can get my hands on vs having to always import them or find a retailer that brings them in in batches.

Jeebus, this was the first time that I had heard DLASK shutdown. RIP a great company.

I thought with Bill C-21 you couldn't legally manufacture barrels without a firearm business license anymore?

I have bfl, also you don't need it to make barrel for yourself, you need it for receiver
