Application / Regulation advice Picking up packages across the border
Niche question I have that relates to the firearms community but not directly firearms related.
I’ve been eyeing some rifle bags (specially the Saviour Equipment SUP bags). Can’t seem to find them in Canada from any of our retailers (in store or online) so figured next best option would be to order from their online store but they only ship within the states. Fair enough, so I was planning to ship to and pick up at a PO Box in Washington state and drive back across the border. I live in Vancouver and the practice of getting packages delivered to a PO Box in Washington to get picked up and declaring them when returning is pretty common.
However, what would the legalities be for picking up a rifle bag and transporting that across the border? Obviously I intend to declare it as if it was any other usual purchase. And of course I know better than to order firearms/parts and doing so. But what about bags/pouches specifically designed to store/transport firearms?
Or am I simply overthinking it? Any and all comments are appreciated!

For what its worth, Bullseye North actually carries Saviour Equipment bags. If they don't have the one you're looking for, perhaps you can reach out to do a special order?

I would've recommended this option as well, but I placed a special order back in January. They told me they would get me in the next order, it seems like that shipment had come in last month.
Reached out and they said it was still being processed. Not sure what that actually entails seems like they just forgot to order it.
Would not recommend this route.

I've done this twice at The Point Roberts Crossing. Both times I declared I'm bringing a firearms case. Only once did they look at it by opening the trunk in addition to asking the value before sending me on my way.
I've also brought over magazine pouches for ipsc. Told them I'm bringing magazine pouches, they asked value and send me on my way.
You shouldn't have any problems.

Seconding this, got mine shipped to a PO box just over the border and declared it to CBSA when I returned.
The guy in the booth side eyed me and asked if there were firearms in the bag and I said nope just the bag. Told him the value and he sent me on my way. This was the Nexus lane tho so the regular lane may be different

As far as CBSA is concerned you can declare and import pretty much anything you can legally buy in Canada, including non-restricted firearms provided you have a PAL. What usually is the problem is export regulations in the US which I don’t think a rifle case would be affected by.

You are overthinking it. There are no restrictions on importing a firearms case. Declare your purchase to CBSA at the port of entry. You’re likely to pay a duty, just show them the paperwork and let them figure out how much. Tell them what you purchased. It’s possible they MAY send you to secondary for an inspection. Let em do their thing. If you have nothing to hide you have no worries. Just FYI, with a few restrictions, you can also bring back firearms parts. Similar thing, just declare them.

I think the only option I found that does ship to Canada was tamfamgram. I don't remember if their prices were insane for shipping.
But as others mentioned, just declare it. A bag can really be used for anything, even something other than it's intended purpose. It's not prohib or ITAR, so you should be fine.

They were on Amazon a couple weeks ago. I kinda prefer the loose sac ones over these though.

Just checked my Amazon cart and its gone. Must just be out of stock. Check their store page in a couple days, I find they re stock fast.

I ordered three Savior Tiger Stripe bags and used Cross Border Pick Ups. They say they won't deal with firearm related items so I listed them as guitar bags. I mean a bag is a bag and could be used for anything.

Not ITAR controlled. No form 4473 required to purchase. No PAL required to possess in Canada. No problems.
It's just a bag.
Is it worth the price though? You'll probably get charged duty when you bring it back.

True, the duties are big X factor in the total cost
Hard to figure out exactly how much to expect but my carts about $230usd if anyone’s willing to take a swing at the total cost haha

Have you looked on amazon? I’ve gotten both my Saviour Equipment bag and shooting mat off of there.

Late to party but i ordered my Savior Equipment bag from Optics planet and they shipped directly to my house with 0 issues and didn't even get hit with duties.

This might be a good option! They have all the accessories I had in my cart as well. Only missing the actual bag itself LOL probably because the SUP bag is relatively new. Guess I’ll just keep an eye out for it and cross my fingers

A bag is not a firearm. It is a bag. My guess is that you may just need to pay tax or duty on it.
I have brought hunting-related equipment back across the border from Pt. Roberts and just showed my invoice and was waived on.
