This policy prohibits all 3rd-party ads or products given to creators that are firearm- or ammunition-related. Think of TFB TV's product segments for example. The punishment for not disclosing it and uploading anyway is to have the video removed. It is also a crime to not disclose these things in most modern countries (Canada included).
If this is retroactive, we are about to see a truly insane number of channels get deleted and waves of age-restricted videos. If it isn't, we're going to slowly see the dying of the firearms community on YouTube. Like all creators who make their primary living from this, the majority of revenue comes from 3rd parties, not Google Ads. You can still earn Google Ad revenue without 3rd party ads, however, that is a tiny amount compared to 3rd party products of payments. I recommend looking at Linus Tech Tips' breakdown of revenue; it's informative. Firearms content is especially expensive to make.
The only content that will be left will be hobbyist content if this is fully enforced. By that, I mean content like mine where 90% of it comes from my own pockets, and it's part of a hobby I already do. Being a firearms creator as a career will now be borderline impossible. Those who already have a big following can go to other platforms and be okay.
I will still make videos, but I will be impacted by this both in the videos I can make and in any hope of this being more than a hobby.

A wise creator would try to back their stuff up on the internet archive or wayback machine. Doesn’t do anything to help people new to these sort

I mean I remember years and years ago seeing a video with this dude with a ponytail firing a Volksturm rifle into a makeshift shooting range made out of a bricks in a basement somewhere, little did I know he would have become one of my favourite channels, one which I have watched almost every video he has done.
A few do that, but it's not necessary. With the law changes, it would have been a lot more helpful. But now there's no point if that's your goal. There are probably better alternative paths now.
Kinda wanted to do that just as a side gig, focusing on education and history and maybe add movies and games that feature said guns, but I’m too poor and busy.
Yeah basically google (that owns the chrome project) is doing everything to make certain users are fed all the ads possible with the manifest v3 update. Chrome has turned into another junk google product sadly.
It will very much hurt the ones who have made it a career, just like everyone else. Most hunting channels have firearm related sponsors, especially ammunition and optics.
Its been referenced as old school information monarchy. They own the digital land and you need to pay the tax to operate there and they control your add revenue % or ability it use the platform at all by a contract they can modify at any time.. Definitely an alternative is required and possible but if it is not a co op or explicitly protected from getting bought out or litigated out it would be extremely difficult. There are pay for platforms like Nebula that are basically replacing old discovery channel but a free open source platforms can't compete with influence of Google.
There was a youtube exhile 4-5 years ago, one of the creators I followed went to Odyssee, but he stopped posting almost immediately. So it's been 4 years of not having a reason to use Odysee.
Good content will get a following anywhere. But it has to be good fucking shit. Not some generic advice. Insightful content that is available on Twitter and Odysee/Bitchute/Rumble would be great.
You'll get some views, but not even close to the same degree. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how good the content is if there are simply fewer people to view them.

Unpopular opinion: There’s an incredible amount of shilling in the Guntuber space. An unhealthy focus on the newest product to hit the market and appealing to potential customers, instead of creating content that’s about shooting & having fun.
That type of content pays the bills for those channels. It costs a lot of money to have your products featured on the large gun tuber channels. It's a whole industry. Nothing is authentic. It's all advertising.
Friend of mine just got a strike on his channel for posting a competition stage run. Video was posted like 5 years ago, not many views or anything, just a strike out of nowhwere.
I have a channel that I use to archive my footage, everything marked as unlisted, let's see if I get struck.
