Shooting Is it that hard for 9mm to be approved?

I see so many 22lr semi’s being released, why aren’t there more 9mm variants being released. All we have is the henry homesteader…

Imagine a TM 9 or something like that! It would be awesome.

Because the way the laws are in place now anything that’s generally common as a 9mm PCC has already been banned by name and anything that hasn’t needs to have been designed before 2023 so anything newer will automatically be prohibited anyways

It's only about when it was made. It predates the December 2023 cut off of C21's prohib definition.

I’d say it’s because from factory it doesn’t have any traditional assault weapon features

Image didn't save the FNAR, M1as, Mini 14, M1's or SVT 40s. The Henry likely slipped thru simply because it came to the Canadian Market after the OIC lists had already been drafted up.

Was it not on the market before the second round of bans? I probably make the argument that the aesthetic saved it in the second round of bans.

Trust me, man I’m not looking for logic here but then all the banned guns poly has been bitching about for years with their little info placards.

The mini 14, especially because that’s what was used at Poly.

The Henry entered the market like in the Summer / Fall of 2024, the 2nd OIC hit Dec with announcement that M1's and a few others would be cleaned up in early Spring. Theres a 0 percent chance they left the Henry just because of its looks. The OICs were likely written up over a year in advance. And they haven't banned it since because why would they write up an OIC just for like 3 remaining semi auto detachable mag models haha.

At this stage, I would say that the optimistic person that still somewhere in my soul would say that the gun control ticket has become such a politically unpalatable hot potato for them that they won’t do any further OIC’s because both with the Supreme Court challenge coming up as well as their now working majority they don’t need to cater to the screeching gun control crowds as of right now. Nor do they want the possible legal implications of banning further guns when there is a Supreme Court challenge surrounding that very power.

But also the petty incompetence and maliciousness of that camp makes me think that they totally would draft in OIC for three guns.

Definitely agree with most of that! One interesting outlier that they 1000% knew about that still got an exemption was the Valmets. Most of us including yourself are probably already familiar with the likely reason why..... BUT it wouldve been very interesting to have been a fly on the wall regarding that discussion and to see WHO in the room was STILL advocating for the Valmets to remain untouched alllll these years later haha

Spoke with the sterling team at taccom and they said they inquired to the government why it was banned and they said “oh we didn’t actually mean to ban it” and told them they can re submit with some minor internal changes and it can hit the market again. They are working on a Mark 2 which should be available soon is what I was told so fingers crossed 🤞

Our government is completely regarded. No company wants to spend the R&D money to develop a Canadian legal 9mm semi auto only to have it banned by name because some dumb politician thinks it’s scary.

They're just a bit more of a big deal to produce. .22LR is seen as like, big boy pellet gun and because the round is such low pressure it's easy to make some random garbage rod .22 replica than it is to make a "real" firearm that can deal with the pressures of 9mm. Add that manufacturing difficulty to the vagaries of the Canadian firearms market and there isn't much incentive for the manufacturers, especially when you can make a full on subgun for the US market instead.

I was at Taccom and Sterling Arms were showing their new Semi PCC. It takes proprietary mags. Being submitted for FRT Monday. I think he said he hopes to have on market in 2 months. I THINK he said it will retail around $1500 or $1600. Also, no threaded barrel, so those of you who like your faux suppressors etc. are out of luck here.

Edit: I also think he said that those of you who bought R9s will be able to do an exchange program with them.

It is the R9 with a few changes, apparently they are changing the classification. Previous owners will be able to send in there old r9 for the new version
