Gun and gear reviews How is Smith & Wesson 1854 .45-70 Govt 20″ Walnut

this would be my second lever action after a Henry supreme looking to put a dot and Muzak in it for a bison trip

1854 is a well built rifle, lots of aftermarket parts for it as well, I have one in .357.

Get a marlin and forget about it the 1854 doesn’t sound like its quality control is worth the price.

Also would anyone know on the ruger 10/22 after around 500 rounds why does the barrel and recharge play in the stock quite a bit play btw this is the sporters edition

They should be tight. But there are torque specs that ypu should at least try to get close to.

I have the .357, I love it. It's easy to use, well built, looks beautiful and quite easy to clean. My only major complaint is the loading gate gets absolutely filthy with copper residue. I scrub it every cleaning and can never get rid of it fully.

I caved and bought one myself. So far my only complaint is the trigger is wobbly. Like loose but it's actually supposed to be like that.

I'd say if you can find a marlin for MSRP then get it. Good luck finding one though
