Came across this old .22 ammo in a buddies collection, neither of us know anything about it.

It's standard copper plated round nose .22lr made by Dominion and marketed under the CIL name. Made in Quebec. It was basically the standard .22lr ammo canada wide up to the 1980's and even into the 90's. CIL made all kinds of rimfire, shotgun and centerfire loads. Some bullet types being cutting edge for their time.

Not really collectable but likely still really good to shoot.

Source: I was never old enough to ever have bought any of this stuff. But Dominion and CIL products were in everyone's ammo cabinet when I was a kid and I still have some to this day.

Unfortunately, I'm old, but not old enough to have any inside knowledge.

All I can give you is that CIL sold all of its commercial ammo operations to IVI in 1976. Not sure what happened after that but it's likely documented somewhere. Not sure if IVI is still doing business but a quick Google search isn't giving me a lot of hope that the are.

IVI (industries Valcartier inc)still produces ammo for the CAF if I’m correct.

canada stopped making a lot of things domestically in the 80s and 90s. our manufacturing sector has never really recovered
