Application / Regulation advice Stupidity of ASFCP and Public Safety
I know I'm gonna get hate for this, but I signed up to turn my rifle in. I haven't shot it in many years even prior to the "buyback" and was already thinking about selling it before the stupid Liberals decided to think all black guns were scary.
Now I have a newborn on the way now so might as well sell it and spend that money on diapers and baby stuff. The price they offered wasn't far from what I was going to sell it for anyways.
But my main grievance is that I followed all the steps and signed up before any deadlines for the compensation program. Tried to setup an appointment weeks in advance of my areas collection. But when I go to setup an appointment the stupid website won't allow me to book an actual appointment saying something along the lines of "the number of firearms I have exceeds the amount they can process at a single time" or something like that. But I only have the one firearm... Hell they even mailed me the box.
So I called the hotline to ask what was going on, and their answer is "public safety will call you within 10 business days" that was over a month and a half ago. My collection period has come and gone and has moved almost 2 hours away from my house now.
What options do I have now?
EDIT/UPDATE: Just got off the phone with the Hotline, apparently public safety decided to move my collection location a little bit closer to my house. Still about an hour and a half drive, I spoke with them on the phone last time on September 1st and they stated that public safety would email me or call me. But apparently 3 hours later they decided to just change my location without notifying me. So here I am a week later still expecting a call or email, just to find out my location changed and I try to setup an appointment and of course there's no slots available...

Not gonna attack or dog pile you, going to give a honest answer. I believe your only option is to withdraw.
The program is set up in a way that once the window is closed for someone (no fault of the person mind you) then you’re absolutely out of luck, they have repeated over and over that compensation is not guaranteed (and therefore not even a right or entitlement to you) that way it absolves them of doing anything for you. The argument will be that this is completely voluntary and you missed your window. I pray this isn’t an NR because part of the goal for this program is to catch people like yourself. The agreement states that public safety has the right to forward all information to local police.
So while they screw you over and not pay you, come deadline time for the amnesty they can forward your information to local police regarding your NR and they will have the right to charge you.
I’d withdraw, honestly. If it’s NR, I’d wait and see if you get a letter or anything that indicates they know you have it, if it R, just hold on and on the last week of any new amnesty date, email the CFO that you destroyed it in accordance with the law and you’re not obligated to provide evidence as per the criminal code.

Seconding this. OP, you did everything you believed was right for you in this situation, and no one can fault you for that. This bungle was, in some ways, something which many of us expected, even those who participated so, rest assured, you are not alone.
As stated by the OC, your best option is to withdraw and wait it out to see if there is a letter from the government confirming that they know you have it. From there, consider either disposal or deactivation based on what's available to you.

Well said, no hating there, just what does appear to be clearly informed education. Good luck to the OP, if you were going to sell it anyway and all the signs implied a financial remuneration, I fully understand your choice. It's tough financial even without a family to feed, so trying to provide for your family is a strong choice.

It’s a humiliation ritual, plain and simple. The contempt the LPC have for gun owners is palpable, how people haven’t picked up on this is actually crazy.

It's a scary black AR so unfortunately it's an R well P now technically. The NR's I'm keeping since I can still use those and I got them before the government made you register it a few years back.

I’d consider contacting the CCFR to tell them about your issues. I don’t think it will help you at all but it’s worthwhile to have more verified examples of the failures of the program out there. Consider also contacting your MP.
What province are you in?

Or contact the media. The only thing the government cares about is optics. More exposure to how half hazard and half baked is always a good thing

That might help OP get some money but I’d be concerned that the mainstream media would frame it as the government failing to get dangerous guns off our streets or something.

I know, so why give them an excuse to bring it up again and reinforce that framing? might as well contact Poly and tell them to lobby the government harder so that you can get paid for your gun.

I mean his mp won't do shit either. They follow party lines or belong to a party that isn't the majority.
He shouldn't have participated because he's already given the data they thirst for.
The only options are withdrawal or raising a stink.

They already have my data since its an AR and was restricted now prohib. So me deciding it to turn it in doesnt change anything.

The same thing happened to me and the only option was to go or forgo payment. It is in their interest for you to not go so that they don't have to pay you anything. For one rifle though I probably wouldn't bother TBH unless it's very valuable in terms of comp amount. If it's a more common gun you'll be getting what $250/hr at best? Depends if it's worth the time for you

They offered me 950 for it and I'm not bothered by traveling 2 hours to turn it in. It's just the fact that my wife is heavily pregnant and I dont know when or where I have to drop the rifle off. If this pushes to close to her due date or beyond it I have no choice but to withdraw if this can't be solved before then.

I think these are all valid reasons to turn it in. Could be issues with local collection site. Maybe they change at last minute for safety... Who knows. Turn up and hand it in
