Gun and gear reviews 313 Operator's Opinion Akdas/Kodiak Alcor Vs Crusader Backland Comp
I noticed 313 Operator had a Crusader Arms Backland Comp when he was showing his collection on Instagram. He had previously done a video on his Akdas Alcor Kodiak Edition which had been modified with a Made-in-Canada Kodiak parts selection, including an adapter that allowed use of an AR buffer tube, pistol grip, and trigger, and M-Loc fore-end. I asked him which he preferred, the Crusader Comp or his Kodiak-modified Alcor, and he stated he preferred the Alcor. So if you can't wait for the Makasi or Carmel and need something you can buy right now to scratch the .223 itch, in 313's opinion the Alcor is your best bet.

Don’t buy the back land. I went to the range today. I can’t get 20 rounds straight out of it.

313 operator is just a casual like any of us. Don't trust him for any sort of opinion.
Look at the way he shoots. He can't reload, shoulder, or handle recoil well. The guy was getting knocked back by his makasi...
Just wait for your preorder. A turkish shitstick isn't worth the money.

That guy mag dumps rifles at a 25m range. His opinion doesn't carry much weight tbh. Cool that hes running rounds thru guns to see how long they got but doesn't mean much otherwise

I'd kinda expect all these types of gun to be ~3moa. Be surprised and delighted with better than that.
Not really precision tools if you know what I mean.
Edit to add: I'd still be curious to know though, especially if I was buying one.

I mean, counter argument, it's a 223 semi auto, not a 6.5 creedmoor bolt action.
So things like recoil, reliable, mag changes, ergonomics, how it shoots when shooting rapidly, these all seem like things that you'd want to know for this kind of rifle. All things you can find out at the 25 meter range.

100% but i dont need to watch someone else to learn how a gun mag changes, minus the round count i can do the rest in store before purchasing

I mean didnt you cancel your pre-order based on a couple pictures and a doomer paragraph?
id rather have a video of a regular dude actually shooting the fkn thing to help form an opinion.

He is a sample of 1 who doesn't have access to a distance range, but he's also the only who has posted he has both shotgun recoil recovery, AR trigger options, so I thought his opinion may be useful to those on the fence between the 2.

What do you mean "shotgun recoil recovery"? Lol

I mean the way energy is stored from each shot and the released to actuate each semi-auto is similar to that used in various shotgun. Neither uses an AR buffer tube and spring or dual springs on dual guide rods like an AR-180, MCX, or Dissent. It is also why the non-Kodiak Alcor and non-Comp Backland use shotgun triggers; shotgun parts are used in both designs.

I put a True North Arms Brakey McBrakeface muzzle brake on my Alcore and it has very little recoil now. For the price, it is a very good muzzle brake.

This is what I've been thinking honestly!!!
Want a classy wood stock? Alcor got you covered.
Want an AR looking rifle with the trigger moved up and not looking like a shotgun? Alcor with the kodiak trigger got you covered.
Want a gun with some proven reliability from the hot sun's of Australia? The Alcor has been lever releasing across the world for years.
So for me? I haven't even blinked at those pre orders. I'm sitting here waiting for the black friday sale to drop the Alcor price down a bit. Slightly getting curious on the cheapo Ad500a but if honestly rather take the Alcor for the reliability.

Don't get the AD500A. Almost everyone I've seen who bought one, including myself, already has issues, even on the first time out.
Firing pin snapped on mine after 20 damn rounds!!! Still awaiting my warranty claim to go through, and handguard mounting holes are poorly machined and dont line up quite right, so my handguard was also coming loose, and perhaps the biggest issue I have seen reported several times now, is the barrel coming loose. The Ad500A is garbage. Ill likely be selling mine for pennies on the dollar after it eventually gets fixed. I suspect the warranty center (SFRC) is probably swamped with claims right now. Almost every time I've seen owners mention it, major issues arose on the first time out.

Thanks for the Info on it! I've noticed a few posts from unhappy people, so the Ad500a is definitely no longer in the running. Alcor for me then!

I have 2 Alcors. Both have ran great. I haven’t even had a jam or a light strike or anything. Over 1000 rounds through each. I will say they are not very accurate though at 100 yards with cheap pmc bronze 55gr FMJ ammo. Haven’t tried heavier ammo but I did see a post somewhere saying they like heavier ammo.

I met an older guy at the gun store who wasn't happy with the long distance performance either. I mean, I'd be comparing it with my Sks as far as semi autos, so I'm sure it would do fine! If it was worse... then I'd be really worried

Ironically I started out with 77gr Federal and that stuff was constantly hitting right and low by about 5” each. Once I started running the PMC 55gr bronze through it, I was getting MUCH better accuracy.

🤷♂️I just can’t bring myself to buy more expensive ammo for them. Not when I blast through 100 rounds in 20 minutes.
