Misc What to do with my brass?

I'm accumulating some 9mm, 38SPL, and 357 brass. I'm not into reloading. Any ideas for what I should do with it? Does it have any value? I don't want to just chuck it into the garbage.

Post a note at your range

There will be lots of people interested in taking it off your hands

1: sell it on Gunpost or else

2: Auctions like Switzer, sfrc, Kidd, etc

3: sell it to a metal recycler

4: keep it for when you reload

5: give it to a friend

How much are you talking about? 38 and 357 especially have value, but I would let it accumulate until you have 1000 pieces of a given cartridge, then just sell on GunPost or post a notice at your range.

Bags of 100 of one fired brass do alright! See what others are selling for clean stuff,  and price yours lower. 

Takes a bit out of the cost of buying them if you can make a little money back

My retired father picks up brass all the time at our local range…. He is keen to stop by after the RCMP do their qualification shoots.

He will save up a few hundred pounds of brass and then sell it to the local recycling company. Last trip he made over $1000.

Does he also recycle shopping carts? Must be tough living on a pension.

I don't reload but I used to sell brass on Gunpost but I stopped doing it once I sold my odd-ball caliber guns. It's only really worth selling brass on Gunpost depending on the caliber of brass. 22LR brass is worthless. 12G and 9mm is only valuable if you store like thousands of it at a time.

Centrefire rifle ammo brass like 308, 30-06, 7.62x39, etc. can be valuable if you keep 50-100 of each around.

The most valuable brass is the oddball/mil-surp calibers like 8mm Mauser, 303 British, 7x62x54R, Carcano, 303 Savage etc. Never throw this kinda brass away because there will always be someone looking for it.

Local metal recycler near me pays $4.20/lb. (Brass only).

Then I can buy more ammo!!!

Has value yes. I used to sell in bulk on gunpost. Don't be greedy if it's once shot and unclean. You get coin back and ideally get a regular buyer.

I was thinking 10 cents per pc. That's $5 per box to subsidize future purchases. I also keep all the boxes and trays so I'd hand those off with the brass.

Once fired brass definitely has value to it. Best idea would be to check out cgn or gunpost and see what you're cartridges are selling for.

Just leave it in a baggy at the range saying "free". Polished Once fired .38 and .357 only sells for like 30cents a piece... so factor that in if its worth selling rather then giving it away.

If you sort it, count it, and bag it you can get more than scrap if you sell it.

To put it into perspective 

100 rounds of one fired 38 S for 20 bucks 100 rounds of once fired 357 for 28 bucks

That's the price for cleaned brass from a style in Canada. Probably get a bit less from just throwing the dirty guys into a baggy and selling it. 

Personally I'd keep collecting and putting them in baggies and then sell em.  Or bag them and give them away at the range.  If selling, I'd want to collect enough to make it worth my while,  not have to deal with selling a bunch of little bags.  Maybe wait till you got 400-500 and sell em all together

There’s some scrap value in it at the metal recyclers but you’ve got to accumulate a bit before it’s worth it.

You could see if someone at the range reloads and see if they want it.
