Feets / Collection / My build Makasi with brace.

Post image

Just some updates, I've posted before about different upgrades you can do with the Makasi using mine as a template. This upgrade, I took advantage of what's allowed in the U.S., installed an 11.5 inch barrel and a Haga Defense Brace with Tail Hook.

I like it, but it makes me want to turn it into a proper SBR so I can upgrade to the stock for the Haga.

where did you get the handguard from?

Handguard is a Midwest Industries drop in 2 piece for AR15s. Had to do some dremel work on the delta ring and handguard cap to fit it. Details are on the other reddit page I posted as a link.

Biggest thing with the handguard, the Makasi reciever is slightly taller than an AR15 reciever. Its close enough you won't notice it with the Gun profile, but if you use front and rear sights like Ive got set up, you need to buy an extra long front sight post for the front sight to offset the height difference between the handguard and reciever when aiming.

so in theory you could put any after market handguard on it just need to dremel it some?

In theory.

Best bet would be a free float handguard that clamps to the barrel nut. I suggest using Midwest Industries drop in 2 piece internal diameter measurement as a baseline for any handguard you use. The dremel was used for the Delta ring assembly, as it didnt have clearence for a piston.

"Gen2 Two-Piece Drop-In (Picatinny/Quad Rail):Internal Diameter: 1.3 inchesOutside Dimensions: 2.3 inches wide and 2.44 inches tall"

Height is the important part, you want the handguard as tall as possible. 2.5 would be best, 2.44 is extremely close to the piston.

Having it be just a teeny bit taller seems like a big mistake on their part. Like if it was a lot taller because it had to be, so be it. Being just a teeny little bit out seems like a waste.

If you look close at the area where the handguard and reciever meet, you can see the height difference I mention.

So you live in the states?

Yes, I picked up the Makasi cause I wanted something different from the AR15. Then I came across Canada guns channel, where I saw it would be available to y'all as unrestricted. From there, I decided to post about my tinkering with the Makasi, figured some of it might give y'all ideas on your end.

How sturdy does it feel?

How does she run overall?

Its pretty sturdy. The other link I posted has a lot of the details for the upgrades I've done.

Haven't had a chance to run it yet with the 11.5 barrel, I'll post results after my next range trip. Might have time to hit it up next weekend.

Tell us how it preforms American man, it would be very nice to know. Many are concerned about QC issues.

That looks really nice and clean. I think you have the best version that I've seen. If they made this in .308 then I would have bought 2.

That looks a little to scarry, it must be taken into your local police station at once

Does the charging handle ever get stuck when it closes the chamber?

2

u/DecentCompetition754 20d ago

No, I haven't experienced that.

With the factory handguard, I believe someone has pointed out that the charging handle has enough movement that when its released, it can strike the back of the handguard. My set up doesnt have that problem, as my handguard doesnt butt up against the reciever due to the delta ring assembly. Below pics show the charging handle normal resting place, and the amount of space it has to go past normal resting place. Focus is at the base of the charging handle, left side in both pics.

Wow thank you for the pictures! So before swapping it out, was there any problem like the charging handle being stuck with the factory handguard? Any other problems you’ve encountered when the rifle was still in factory config?

The only out of the box issue I had was the gas plug position as listed in the instruction PDF was backwards (unsuppressed position was actually suppressed and vice versa) so the first couple of rounds I fired wouldnt cycle fully. Once I realized, and switched the position, it was fine.

After modification, I've been having light primer strikes with an AR15 drop in trigger (Rise Armament LE145). I've actually swapped that back out for a regular AR15 Mil Spec trigger, still need to shoot it to see if the light primer strikes go away.

Not a functional issue, just something I noticed when replacing my handguard, the 2 retaining bolts for the factory handguard were biting into the barrel nut because the handguard bolt holes and barrel nut bolt recess's for them weren't lined up 100%. When I was still using the factory handguard, I fixed that by adding an AR15 barrel shim under the barrel nut, was enough to push the barrel nut forward to align the barrel nut bolt recess's with the handguard holes.

At this point, I've probably replaced half of the gun with modifications to my taste, list of swapped parts is below:

Factory swapped parts: Barrel Bolt (came headspaced with new barrel) Barrel nut Handguard Stock Fire Control Group Grip

Bonus parts (add ons/didnt come factory) Delta Ring and handguard cap Sights/extra long front sight

Where did you get the rifle what is the model of it?

He’s American, he most likely got his straight from brigade firearms. It’s the Makasi MK-15, it’s unrestricted and semi-automatic. It’s coming to Canada in the next few days.
