Application / Regulation advice What is up with this "Contact CFO" message?

Post image

I bought a shotgun online from Bullseye the other day, today I got this email from them.

Im not sure what the issue is, I got my PAL in June and have made purchases without issue.

I wasn't in any legal trouble or anything, so this seems odd. Has anyone else had this happen before?

Here's a wild idea... Maybe contact the CFO and find out.

Nah, ask completely unrelated parties on the internet sounds more relevant.

I was just asking if anyone had this experience before and what came of it. Obviously I contacted them. Don't be a sarcastic ass.

Sarcastic Ass is literally my job title.

“Obviously I contacted them” then why the tf u making this post.

-2

u/coniferslav 20d ago

You can't read the sentence before that? Wanted to see if anyone else had that issue before and what caused it.

-7

u/coniferslav 22d ago

I emailed them since its too late to call them. I will follow up with a call tomorrow.

Your PAL is probably in review we have had a few customers have this happen recently. Id still call to confirm. It takes a couple days and then its back to normal if this is the case

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Why would it be in review if they already issued it? Wasnt the time for review the months of waiting before??

5

u/LumberjackCDN Gold'n Loan Outfitters & Pawn 22d ago

They pull them randomly to recheck from time to time

31

u/LeviathanOfLiberty 22d ago

Yeah it's out of their control, the CFO puts flags on PALs for a variety of nebulous reasons. As they stated, if they contacted the CFO, the CFO would inform them that the customer/buyer has to directly get in touch with them.

Hide the doggo.

Unless the doggo is a fire station or a gunsmith, it should be ok

22

u/ssgfrmrswrp 22d ago

Im curious now too, did you contact them?

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Too late today, I will tomorrow

7

u/Eglitarian 22d ago

Now we're all sitting here waiting in suspense about what happened!

17

u/pene_minusculo 22d ago

It can be any number of things, could be as simple as the email you used wasn’t the same as the one you used to apply for your PAL.

Just call the CFO.

7

u/coniferslav 22d ago

I emailed them tonight, Ill call tomorrow.

10

u/MourningWood1942 22d ago

Onetime I got that, called the CFO and he said he saw my PAL photo and thought I was kinda cute so he flagged it so I call him. Now we are fucking

9

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 22d ago

Happens all the time. Just call the CFO.

4

u/coniferslav 22d ago

This is a regular thing?? Is there any reason why? It just makes no sense to me.

10

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 22d ago

Yeah we have it happen several times per week sometimes.

Reasons vary. Just call.

8

u/CrabShout 22d ago

Clearly the swat team is on their way as we speak.

You should be fine, the CFO’s office will help you clear things up (unless you forgot about some recent charge lol).

3

u/coniferslav 22d ago

No charges or any police contact which is what bewilders me, I know I put down the same email and address thats on file so that isn't the issue.

3

u/Fit-Internet4674 22d ago

Did you move recently? Or since your PAL was issued under your old address, did you update your address if so? Maybe address mismatch is my wild guess since we’re throwing em out there.

3

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Nope, all of that is the same.

1

u/givemehellll al 22d ago

Any relationship issues/ breakups or family drama?

2

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Nope, all is well in the household. My wife is getting her PAL soon as well so we can do trap.

6

u/TescoValueSoup 22d ago

The numbers Mason. What do they mean?

4

u/WS2329 22d ago

Indicates a flag on your account. Doesn’t necessarily have to be something serious. Could literally be as simple as address change verification pending, safe storage questions that they might have for you, etc… just call the CFO and hopefully it will be sorted over the phone. Good luck!

3

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Yes hopefully, I am compliant with everything and no change of address or contact info.

5

u/WS2329 22d ago

Nothing to worry about then.. been in that boat myself a few years ago and it was an easy resolution

2

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Did they give you a reason as to why it was flagged?

4

u/WS2329 22d ago

Yes, the did. Involved questions around borrowing/lending of FAs. I was honest and answered all questions. Issue was resolved over the phone

1

u/Accomplished-Beat779 22d ago

Did they say you have to do PAL check before lending?

1

u/WS2329 22d ago

Borrowing/lending of restricted FA needs to go through CFO every time. There’s a proper application process for it. They had some questions regarding my case hence the flag.. if you are borrowing/lending non-restricted, yes, a PAL check is mandatory

4

u/Clover_Lawn_4440 22d ago

I moved with restricted without an ATT. Changed my address online and a few weeks later got flagged and reminder to get an ATT next time. Apologized and all was good.

6

u/KriosXVII 22d ago

It means that under no circumstances should you contact the CFO, you must instead ask reddit and your AI of choice

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

You must've missed the part where I did contact them and will contact them again the following day.

2

u/16gaugeguy16 22d ago

It's usually not serious. I've seen times where it seemingly appeared random. As long as you haven't been arrested, apprehended, or reported for something you're fine.

2

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Wow an actual answer that calms my nerves! Thanks! Its just random? Because I have not had issues or reports or any LEO interactions

2

u/16gaugeguy16 22d ago

I'm sure on the back end there is a reason, but it isn't usually a serious reason and can happen to anyone it seems. If you haven't done anything wrong, they'll just push it through on the phone when you call. We use to have it happen to customers all the time (a few times per week) and 95% of the time we would fix it on the spot with a phone call to the cfo.

If I had to speculate why this happens, someone with a similar name and DOB populated a high match score on CPIC and/or a FIP hit so you get flagged as a precautionary.

2

u/CatchADeffaz 22d ago

This happened to me before and it was completely random with no reason

2

u/okiwali 22d ago

Let us know once your find out pls.

u/Fluffy_Dad 22d ago

Working at a firearms retail store, I have seen, just recently, a PAL suspended for reportedly not sufficient safe firearm handling instruction (and the instructors license being revoked as well). The person had to do the PAL course again, before they could purchase another firearm.

2

u/Geralt-of-Rivai 22d ago

Are you saying the instructor that taught the course have out false information so everyone who took the course has to redo it?

3

u/Fluffy_Dad 22d ago

That is a possibility. I have noticed many people buying firearms that do not know the basic firearm actions, identifying ammunition, safe operation of firearms, knowledge in either official testing language. The CFO office may investigate as to who did the testing and revoke their instructing credentials as well as licenses of their students.

u/fishhacker5 20d ago

In my 10 years in the industry, this is a terrifying statistic that is rising rapidly. Used to be 1:50 clients, now it’s 2:3, particularly in a certain demographic that frequents the media. I refused about 9 sales last week alone. I intend to leave the industry within the next year if the trend continues and my optimism is low…

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

Im not sure that would be my issue, Ive only been to the range a few times with no issues and keep my firearms stored safe & legally.

2

u/chillyrabbit 22d ago

No they are saying the instructor who would have certified the person as safe to handle firearms by passing the CFSC.

Was found to not be conducting the CFSC the correct way, and because of that it then invalidated all the CFSC pass results for whoever received training from that instructor.

Basically in the CFO's eyes that person would have been considered to not have passed the CFSC since the instructors training or testing results were found insufficient, and without passing the CFSC you can't have a license.

u/i-Hermit 21d ago

That'd be a supreme nut kick.

1

u/Zorr101 22d ago

How’s your shopping experience been with Bullseye?

1

u/PageAggravating4460 22d ago

I’m curious now please update us if you’re able when you hear

3

u/coniferslav 22d ago

I will post a comment here after I call them tomorrow.

1

u/StairwayHiker 22d ago

It’s not necessarily easy, but login to the govt site and read the damn message.

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

No messages

1

u/Apprehensive_Lock868 22d ago

Now you've got me a bit worried. I've had my PAL checked 30 times in the past 1.5 years purchasing around 30 firearms. I hope that doesn't flag me

1

u/Same-Matter-2368 22d ago

Once I made a video and post it on Instagram and Facebook with my real name in the video, I’m shooting targets with my sons. Then a few months later, I went to buy a two more shotguns from the retailer and they said my card is declined my pal, so I called CFO and after two months, they told me that my PAL is flagged and is temporary locked for the reasons I made online threats and what not which I didn’t so I had the regional police called me interviewed me, took a statement from me my Ex Wife, my friends and then unlocked my card so the point is that maybe your card is locked as well if somebody made a complaint about you . imagine somebody saw my video with my real name which is stupid from my part ( . I should put a nickname ) and reported me anonymously and took me almost 8 months to unlock my PAL again.

1

u/Less_Ad_6609 21d ago

Alright, what’s the verdict

1

u/coniferslav 21d ago

All good, just posted an update.

1

u/cattabliss bc 21d ago

sooo... what happened after contacted the cfo bro

1

u/coniferslav 21d ago

All good, I just posted an update.

1

u/AceArchangel 22d ago

I notice you said since you got your PAL in June you have made "purchases" as in multiple. Now I'm no expert but there is potential that your account could have been flagged if you have been making multiple purchases in such a short period of time. It's literally been like 2 months and it would be irregular to be making multiple purchases in such a short period from getting your PAL.

Not saying that is what caused it just putting it out there.

8

u/CurlyWurly61 22d ago

It would be irregular to be making multiple purchases in a short period? Brother. I recieved my PAL on a thursday and my the following wednesday I had an SKS, .22 Derya and a 12 Gauge plus ammo and bunch of other shit from multiple different sites.

My front porch looked like Christmas came early

0

u/AceArchangel 22d ago

Were those dealer purchases or private?

0

u/StraangeTamer 22d ago

Imagine the irregularities that occurred when the handgun ban was coming into place..

2

u/rearg1 22d ago

I've had my pal for 3 months and in that time I've bought 7 firearms... Silly reasoning.

0

u/AceArchangel 22d ago

Purchased privately or through a dealer?

1

u/coniferslav 22d ago

In the last few months I bought a rifle, ammo a few times from the range and Home Hardware. Nothing else since this week when I wanted to buy the shotgun.
