Feets / Collection / My build MAS-49/56 post full disassembly and cleaning.

Did a complete strip and full cleaning right down to the nuts and bolts of my new MAS-49/56. Yes, it is chambered in the original 7.5X54 (7.5 FRENCH) that these babies were originally made for and not one of the .308 conversions that are known to cause problems. Although the vast majority of the imports converted to .308 were from Century Arms, this one was also imported by them back in the day and appears they decided not to butcher it with a badly done conversion.

Only parts I couldn’t get to come off were the gas tube, barrel, front sight (didn’t want try to take the front sight off) and the side scope plate (the one security screw appears to be cross threaded and I’m going to have to probably get it drilled or something).

Everything else was removed, fully scrubbed, boiled, and oiled.

Going to be taking it out for the first time soon, but probably going to buy an after market firing pin system as the one these came with are free floating and it increases the odds of a slam firing do to the modern ammunition having softer primer than the original 7.5x54 (7.5 FRENCH) that was made back in the day.

All parts appear to be original, although with that one security screw I may need to be changing that myself unfortunately.

Great gun!

Though non-captured recoil spring is a PAIN to assemble back
