Misc Rust or copper fouling?
Hey folks, anyone able to help me with determining whether or not this is copper fouling or rust? The first time I shot this gun it rained on me, and it’s possible I didn’t get all the moisture off of it. I just cleaned the bore and ran an oiled patch through.

If you are getting this much copper fouling, make sure to get a bore brush. The cleaning oil/rag combo will get rid of carbon and soot but the copper will remain unless you have a brass brush.

I did use a brass brush on it w/ Hoppe’s bore cleaner. Maybe I didn’t do enough passes on it, I’ve only put about 50 or so rounds through it.

Try something specific for copper fouling, instead of a general CLP like Hoppe’s. I like BoreTech CU+2.

Is copper fouling in general an issue? Or is it only something that you need to worry about if it’s causing accuracy issues?

Really just a problem when accuracy starts to drop off.
Plain bore cleaners like hoppes no. 9 won’t touch it, you need something specifically for copper fouling.

That’s what I figured. Thanks a bunch! I’m new to shooting so this info is very helpful for me.

Pro-Shot SVC-8 Copper Solvent IV is what I've used. Push through a couple soaked patches, let sit for 10-15 mins, scrub with a brush soaked in it, run some dry patches through. Repeat until the patches come out clean.
Hoppes wouldn't touch copper fouling for me. I think it's more for carbon/lead fouling.
