Feets / Collection / My build Refinished and blued SKS
Hi all, hope everyones doing great. Recently got my first type56 chinese sks. Didnt really like the wood stock it came with as lots of peeled shellac and stuff. Was it good to go? Hell yeah! But did i want to refinish it? HELL YEAH!
Initially i wouldve gone with a luckyshot stock but the wait time was insane as the guy is totally hammered with orders and after looking at various aftermarket stocks i really cant get myself to install any "plastic" stocks, it kinda makes the SKS lose its aesthetic to me. I mean no hate to those that like a more modern look to the firearm ofc, its just everyone has different tastes. Plus it almost always never fits perfect unless retrofitted with spacers and pads etc.
So i took on the challenge and did the whole refinish and blued the barrel and dust covers. It took me over 12 hours including removing the cosmoline. First time ever doing it so please be kind. Went with "commie red" stains.

Nice work! Did you do cold-blue? I did that for an old SxS and it was fun, I found it faded to a Grey patina pretty quickly though (which honestly looks good still on an old gun)

Cold bluing yes, did it with birchwood caseys. Took about 4 coats to turn it back to the OG look from bare silver
