Misc Old picture from Cabelas

Post image

Right when before my license came in and was looking at what to buy, anyone else have old pictures from Cabelas or gun stores showing what we had at the time?

I miss seeing handguns on display.

u/DarkHeroes5 28d ago

I miss the variety we had, when I was waiting for my license to be approved I would go online and look at all the sales and think what I would get 1st then 2nd and so on..

It's almost hunting season. Some good stuff will come. Make the fire, prepare the smoke, signal when it's here!

u/laeraor 27d ago

I feel this for sure the one by my place doesn't even sell used ones anymore :/ And they used to have such a awesome selection of rifle bags! They're all cabela brand now :(

Still laugh how the gsg is prohib when I can still plink away with my tm22 and Adler

62

u/hunterofsteelhead 28d ago

How any 22 is prohibited when you can have a 12 gauge always stumped me

27

u/spicymeatmemes 28d ago

Give one to 22man, 700yds all day long. If that ain't enough to make you shake in your loafers idk what will

u/guestpassonly 28d ago

Trying to make sense of "why" is an exercise in frustration.

I remember when a Chinese SKS was going for 189 on Black Friday, wish I'd picked up a dozen

Old screenshot on my phone from 2019

1

u/TheRealBlue68 26d ago

What ?? 😧😧 when was that… what year ?

25

u/alphawolf29 28d ago

I got my PAL in 2007 i think and yea SKS's were regular $179 at the time.

20

u/EnvironmentalFox7532 28d ago

Me too, even Home Hardware had them for $199 back in the day and a crate of ammo for $299.

1

u/SoldiersofChristBR 26d ago

I didn't know home hardware ever carried guns, never seen any have them.

3

u/EnvironmentalFox7532 26d ago edited 26d ago

Most small towns in more rural area that had a home hardware sold guns and ammo at one time. Use to be able to buy ammo there when I was kid. Had to be 12 and have a letter from the Local RCMP and parents permission. Small town I’m from was population 900 in town, and everyone knew who you were. Use to ride to town on my bike, stop at home hardware, pick up ammo for my 22 and 410 and then go hunt rabbits and grouse.

I’ve been hunting since I was 8 or 9 by myself on family land we had back then. My mother use to tell us make sure you take your compass, matches and hatchet when you go out to play even. Good times and ways that are as alien to most people these days.

Our sears, home hardware and drugstore were all in one 3 story building and they sold everything from Tylenol, guns, fishing gear to building supplies, appliances and even some furniture other than flat packed sawdust stuff.

24

u/alter3d 28d ago

$189? Hella expensive. I got mine from Marstar back when they were selling them for $75 if you bought a case of ammo with it.

My order was a case of ammo (1400 rounds), the SKS, a bunch of stripper clips, and some snap caps, order total was $399.90.

29

u/FD4L 28d ago

Back when you didnt have to clean an sks after using corrosive ammo, you could just buy a new one every time you wanted to go shooting.

1

u/T-Breezy16 27d ago

This makes me big sad

5

u/BackToTheCottage 28d ago

Marstar in like 2015 had a $75 Chinese SKS with ammo.

6

u/Icecreamandelk 28d ago

Brother I remember when they had Russian SKS ($75) and mosin nagant ($50) in Alberta gun shops stood up on A frames and they offered a combo ; if you payed $100 you’d get a mosin or SKS of your choosing off the frame with 100 rounds of surplus ammo .

2

u/looloopklopm 28d ago

Do you know what year that was?

Would be interesting to see if dumping cash into sks's would have been better than investing in the S&P

2018 or 2019 I think

1

u/Dependent_Account603 27d ago

Well for sure. Of course they could have banned the SKS as well.

Thats another question is if they ban the SKS, will the confiscation compensation be 200$ or 800$?

-3

u/Current-Speed4096 28d ago

a dozen? were you hosting a NDP convention or something?

29

u/Brandon_awarea 28d ago

“Old” this was like what two years ago?

8

u/DarkHeroes5 28d ago

Haha yes this is about 2 years ago, not really old but since then that’s when the big bans started hitting and prices have sky rocketed and it sucks seeing how much I missed out on

4

u/PermissionSafe2183 28d ago

Right I was gonna say this is like 2023 2024 op seems young if this is considered old

5

u/Brandon_awarea 28d ago

Tbf I felt the same way in 2021 when I got my license. Seeing pictures of the ar-15’s I couldn’t have. Hilarious to think someone looks at a Gsg16 and thinks “if only I could have that”

11

u/newtoabunchofstuff 28d ago

Sure do miss the Ruger PCC.

1

u/Wooden_Celebration34 24d ago

I bought one less than a week before they banned them. I’ve never shot it.

11

u/Murray3-Dvideos 28d ago

Sport highlights in my lifetime: -Sub 300 dollar SKS and SVT 40 rifles -25 cent non corrosive 7.62x39 ammo -Canada Ammo M16 pens lol -TV Press Pass & Civil Advantage -Sub 700 dollar forged receiver M14s, ARs and CZ 858s -Sub 2000 dollar .50BMGs -XCRs finally becoming accurate lol -1000 dollar NR EHr receivers -Type 81s -Easy to find and import Russian Optics -Good PCCs.... in that order.

10

u/fyfnw 28d ago

You don't have to accept the way things are. Its going to suck but we can get back what we lost if we refuse to accept where we are today. The name of the game is to keep applying pressure on the government for them to lift these useless laws.

9

u/Armedfist 28d ago

We lost so much since 2015

4

u/thingk89 28d ago

Don’t look into any leadership changes around that time. It wouldn’t be related….

6

u/Response-Cheap 28d ago

Yeah I had a stack of Canadian Access To Firearms magazine/flyers from mid 24 to 26. The front pages in '24 started with Tav 7s and Type 87s and Brens then switched to Cryptos and the Sterling Arms R9 MK1 after the first ban, now it's all high dollar fudd guns and the odd $800 SKS. I was going to take pictures of the front covers and make a post of them in chronological order, but it was just depressing so I threw them in a dumpster..

5

u/TheSkrillanator 28d ago

I got my PAL right befoe the first big ban wave of the 2020s. I wanted an ISSC Mk22 to start with, which was basically a variant of that GSG 15. Then I decided Id go for a Kriss Vector in 22. Double sike.

I ended up settling for a Turkish plinker I - thankfully - have had no problems with, at least.

PAL life is pain.

3

u/alphawolf29 28d ago

I remember when SKS's were $179

3

u/hunterofsteelhead 28d ago

I dk why but cabelas used to have at least a dozen sks everytime I went but lately they haven't had 1

3

u/Easy7777 28d ago

They stopped selling them

2

u/DarkHeroes5 28d ago

Local one has a beat to shit one for around $700 used, gross

3

u/Easy7777 28d ago

Happy I was able to buy another last fall before they stopped selling the SKS

Moved to Florida and have never been happier in my pursuit of firearms and firearms sports.

People aren’t mad enough over the handgun ban.

1

u/Oogaboooganator 27d ago

If I could find a picture from their rack in 1990, it would explode a lot of heads. It’s crazy what we’ve lost.

1

u/Benefit_Waste 27d ago

Looking back. The Ruger PC carbine looks sick

1

u/dgod40 27d ago

I always hated that version of the pc9. The "tactical" ones were sexy AF though. Wish I had bought one of those when I had a chance.

1

u/Armedfist 27d ago

I remember my first firearm was a Svt 40 for $400

1

u/DarkHeroes5 27d ago

Wild, I saw a mag for an SVT-40 the other day for around $300 alone

1

u/Technical_Fun_3190 27d ago

Is that a French tickler?

1

u/DarkHeroes5 27d ago

Yes that was one

1

u/Technical_Fun_3190 27d ago

Hold onto that beauty, may I ask what your serial number starts with?

1

u/DarkHeroes5 27d ago

Sorry it is one but that one is not mine

1

u/CaptianRipass 27d ago

That's an old picture? I remember sks being like 275 at CT

1

u/AioliMindless 23d ago

Is that Ottawa?

1

u/Sad-Stop-2401 14d ago

Till this day, I do not understand which slimy little communist shit, twinkle-toed cocksucker put GSG in "Assault" category.

1

u/MarkDometitaOfSurrey 28d ago

Damn, didnt know cabelas sold MP5s. That is scary as fuck. Im glad they banned full auto guns like these

3

u/airchinapilot 28d ago

Those weren't MP5s. They were .22 semi-automatic rifles that were made to look like them. Cabelas was not in Canada when fully automatic firearms were legal (late 70s).

5

u/Relative_Context_122 28d ago

He’s being sarcastic

2

u/airchinapilot 28d ago

I can't tell any more. 80 per cent of comments rn are low Karma / little sub history

1

u/Thereal_Stormm006 28d ago

We had it so good before 2020. I miss those days. Now I have to move to the US now.

0

u/BrotherLefthand 28d ago

The last rifle I bought from Cabela's was an SKS. $400 for a french tickler.

0

u/Whispersfine 28d ago

I miss that old ugly ruger PCC. 😩

0

u/gramie185 28d ago

Thank god they got rid of these assault weapons. Our streets are so much safer. They should make all crime illegal next.
