Serious question? What "citizen" gets harsh punishment? You seem to be making a distinction between criminals and citizens, so are you saying non criminal citizens get harsher punishments?

Lawful gun owners that make minor mistakes vs career criminals engaging in serious crime like above.

Not trying to be rude but I wasn't asking for generalized statements. What examples do we have of lawful gun owners making a minor mistake getting harsher punishments than career criminals.

Thomson was a pretty crazy case. The one where he was getting fired bombed and he fired shots into the ground to scare the assailants off. Dude eventually got off but lost years of his life and a ton on lawyer fees. I'd say several years and hundreds of thousands of dollars plus insane amounts of stress is pretty punishing.

Khills case was also pretty out there, he shot a guy who was stealing his truck and the crown appealed his case all the way to the supreme court, he got like 8 years for man slaughter (aka his life as a reservist is over). Meanwhile we're seeing the crown go very soft on other crimes.

Coombes is a similar case to khill, he caught people stealing his atv on his property, he shot them when they hopped into their getaway vehicle, he got sent to federal prison I'm pretty sure. I don't remember how long but it wasn't a small number.

Barnes is a pretty famous case from the 90s, some kids broke into his house, stole his rifle and did some robbery with it, the courts went full press over him not having secure storage and they hit him with massive fines, revoked his shit and I believe he had a multi year weapons prohibition applied to him (which cooks you for life in general).

There's more examples but let's not kid ourselves, our courts are incredibly lenient on certain crimes and certain criminals.
