In not arguing that what he did was smart or legal or necessary, my point is that because we don't include firearms training for these type of situations, or self defense at all people find themselves in these situations with little idea the dangers it imposes.

If an armed aggressive intruder breaks into your house and you legally have time to procure a firearm and load it, your still taking a huge gamble that your not posing a threat to your neighbors.

And yes its not a legal reason to get a license, purchase or own a firearm, but there is precedence where its been deem justified to use one on self defense. My point is people should know what that entails.

Again we're not talking about self-defence inside a dwelling. There was no "aggressive intruder breaks into your house". Sorry that's not what happened at all. It was trespassing and MAYBE attempted theft of a car on a driveway OUTSIDE the dwelling.

We're talking about a guy who thought he was Rambo chasing people outside his house on the driveway with a gun and shooting at them. They tried to steal his car so what. Would he do the same thing if two teenagers tried to steal his bike from the front lawn? Reasonable and proportionate? No. Definitely not self defence. If he hit them or anyone else it would be attempted murder or manslaughter with a firearm. Was it worth it?

Did you actually read my comment? I never argued that he did. Im arguing that using a firearm for self defense is legal under the right circumstances and that people should be educated on what that entails, when it applies and what is appropriate to avoid this scenario.
