Schmidt Rubin Gewehr 1911 (0.307) & French Tickler (0.310)

I did have to refinish the SKS stock because I accidentally damaged the factory phenolic resin varnish while trying to steam out a dent...😭

Will be reloading 7.5x55 in the future cuz it's basically a 308 Win dressed in Sennechutteli with a little bit of more powder.

Did steaming out your dents make much of a difference?

Well as you can see it didn't really work... The dent is seen in the second picture, right below the receiver adjacent to the charging handle.

I was under the impression that it's finished with shellac that's easy to repair hence the steaming.

Guess I was wrong. Apparently it is some sort of modified oil finish that contains phenolic resin. Even lacquer thinner couldn't get rid of it so I had to obtain some old Circa 1850 that contains DCM in order to strip down the whole thing.

It's now refinished with Transtint and real Chinese tung oil. I honestly like the matte finish more than the original one lol

How smooth is the Bolt on the Schmidt Rubin? I ask because I find straight pulls quite alluring but have only encountered Steyr’s, Ross’ and those new Beretta straight pulls in the wild.

It heavily depends on the inertia of your dominant hand/arm...plus it's supposed to be lubed with grease. Overall it's pretty smooth!
