Feets / Collection / My build Irons, scope or red dot? Which Stowaway would you take into the backcountry?

I would like to use the aero survival rifle that I bought for that specific reason. I had a small reflex on it.

which caliber is your survival rifle chambered in?
i have mine in 10mm and 45acp
have both barrels2
u/N1GHTSQU1R3LL Aug 13 '26
45, I love the look of them with a ten round mag instead of the pointless 30 rounder it came with.

Scope with a red dot on a cantilever and iron sights as backupsÂ

I bought a rail riser/extender that I am playing with but it will require some modification as the bolt hits it.Â

Not sure what this firearm would be able to achieve in any setup when needing it in the backcountry. I would take a 10/22 with a 25rd mag against a single shot of 9mm.

Can’t have 25 rounds anymore.

You can legally use an adapter that takes other branded mags.

Too bad the Bx-25 was banned.
This is a multi-cal rifle. The .22lr version is coming soon I hear.

Hc3r mags are 25 rounders, can fit with a little remodelling to the receiver easy enough

Irons but nor these ones.
Buy some mp7 knock offs, it's a traditional pistol knotch and post when folded down. Or buy the fancier Glock sights that can attach to the rail. Much lower profile than the flip ups.
Baring that, I'd go red dotÂ

Had these kicking around from another build, do you have links? I'm trying to find something lower profile than these and what you mentioned sounds great.

The mp7 knock off I got was a airsoft sight I gambled and got off Hero Outdoors (sketchy drop shipper)  link to better website https://www.evike.com/products/28214/Shooters-Steel-Precision-MP7-Style-Flip-Up-Front-and-Rear-Sight-Set-for-20mm-Rails./
Here is the glock sights from high tower armory (currently out of stock though) https://www.ebay.com/itm/374495411833
So honestly... the mp7 knock offs are cheaper than the glock sights and in stock.....
If you are feeling brave and want to tangle with a sketchy Canadian drop shipper.... here is the link to hero outdoors. Just know they have lots of problems to prepare to have to email them a time or two and maybe do a charge back if they don't smarten up! https://www.herooutdoors.com/well-shooters-steel-precision-mp7-style-flip-up-front-rear-sight-set-for-20mm-rails/

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.
Saw the Hightower sights but too bad they are out of stock.
Thanks for the heads up/warning about hero outdoors. I’ve had issues with other dropshippers and it’s such a pain.

Honestly I'm shocked I got mine without much issue. I emailed them after my order had been stuck without much movement, and then suddenly it showed up.
Evike looks to be an American airsoft store, but their shipping was like 70 dollars, so not worth it unless buying more stuff as the same timeÂ

They are all nice, but the added ridiculousness of that scope definitely increases your chances of being beat to death by a stranger in the woods. My god. Buy a rifle. Lol!

Putting a Vortex Viper PST on it was 1/2 joke and trying to see how far I could stretch out 5.7x28mm.

Blue line pump.
Can use the $350 you saved not buying one of these pieces of junk on a gym membership so you can carry a gun heavier than 2.8lb

Do you need a scope that big for the middle one? Like does it get that good of range?
1
u/Joels-workshop Aug 13 '26
Putting on that scope was a joke but I also wanted to see how far I could stretch out the 5.7 round.

My .308 bar is by no means light but it's the only rifle I'll take to where I go

I never really understood the appeal of a single shot 9mm. Not big enough to really do much to large game and not small enough to do small game. where sometimes you need a quick follow up and not to blow it to bits.

Cool stock!

u/Joels-workshop Aug 13 '26
Thank you, I came up with it! My inspiration was the Magpul backpacker stock for the TD 10/22.

I have a 3x vortex prism on my 9mm stowaway, works with the 16" and 5" barrel, sighted in with the 5". The velocity difference isn't enough to worry about minute of gopher at 50y between the two barrels.

If you're going for a survival rifle, I'm of the belief that reduancy is key. Therefore I'd suggest an enclosed emitter red dot that can cowitness with your iron sights and/or a QD mount for the dot.

Red dot or irons that scope looks ridiculous plus too much weight imo
