Is this a NR model?

No it's the 16" restricted, The NRs will take longer to arrive. GOV already knows we have them anyways so no difference to me as I dont shoot on crown land or plan on hunting. Just putting holes in paper.

Newbie here....please explain how the govt knows what NRs you own? I guess they would know what you bought at some point?

Other way around. They know OP has this because it's restricted.

It sounds like OP is arguing they know either way. Presumably they’re talking about the “backdoor” registry that came about a few years ago requiring mandatory records from retailers and PAL verifications (through RCMP) for private sales.

After the last year and a half of the grab, I think its become quite plain to see that the NR tax is worth it when push comes to shove.

There is no "backdoor registry" for private sales, verifying a PAL doesn't require you to complete the sale. All the info the Horse gets is that your PAL was verified and you purchased somewhere between 0 and infinite firearms

Ya the backdoor comment applied more to the retailer records. Between the abolishment of the long gun registry and the new rules circa 2022 there were no formal requirements for record keeping by retailers, but now there are tighter rules and a 20 year minimum retention period for those records.

Whenever somebody buys a firearm their license and the firearms information is sent to the CFO and the business also keep record its said that the information isnt stored but do you trust them?

Its even less specific than buying - its whenever your PAL is checked, which can and does happen without a purchase ever taking place.

What are other ways your pal gets checked without a purchase?

You could meet someone for a purchase, they verify your PAL, you change your mind before the sale and you both part ways. This, on paper appears the same as if a sale had occurred.

No law against checking a PAL. Maybe you're selling a magazine or a barrel and want to be sure the dude has a licence or you like having the option to trade guns around your hunting buddies a lot so you verify with your friends every few months ... or maybe you just like getting emails.

Ah ok thanks. My understanding was there is no NR registry like there is for R firearms.

There isn’t. The CFO knows what NR you buy today, but not what you currently own.

They dont even know what you bought today unless you have already done something thats caused a judge to give the police a warrant for our sales records pertaining to you. All the CFO gets from us is your PAL number, your DoB and your email, they tell us if youre a good boy or girl still and issue us a transfer number thats good for 3 months and isnt tied to a single gun. (Aka you could buy 10 guns that day, only 1 transfer number)

I mean there still isn't really, not compared to R firearms. After it's gone from the store they aren't tracking them via private sales. Store can show I've bought it sure but I've sold it since then, and bought other things people bought from stores. Neither of which were tracked.

There isnt an official one and older firearms cant be tracked very easily but new ones are recorded and any firearm that is bought , sold , given and I believe inherited requires the 2 license holders to acquire a transfer number which is possibly also recorded

Transfer number just permits you to transfer NRs, no information on what if any firearms are actually transferred
