Feets / Collection / My build Upgrades for the 1854

Wasn't a huge fan of the size of the rear peep sight. Went to the gun shop looking for a 3-9, came home with a red dot instead. Leopold Freedom RDS 1x.

how do you like it?

I ordered one for my Makasi to swap in/out with the leupold 1.5-4x lpvo

Have yet to have it out at the range. So dont have much to say so far.

But checking it out around the house, it feels great. Able to get the gun up and get eyes on target quite quickly. Dot looks good. And it is not too bulky or obstructing.

One of the better looking "1moa" dots I have seen, looks crisp

I definitely could see that coming up compared to other red dots available.

All in all after the first range day with it. I fully enjoy it. Works great.

Would recommend changing the take down screw for the lever - Ranger Point makes a tooless one and also for the butt stock.

Had seen those. Definitely something I'll be looking at grabbing. Allong with the crossbar safety delete.

Just don’t goof like I did and buy one with the wrong calibre on the screw lol.

I have it chambered in .44 but accidentally bought one that has 45-70 printed on it. 🫥

Hmmm.

I have been looking for an easy excuse to buy a 45-70. If I buy the wrong part it only makes sense to buy the right gun to match. Right?

Cant be wasting money letting parts just sit around unused. ;)

I had no choice, they don't make one for 45 colt

I got the 45-70 screw. Figured it was close enough

Why a 1x? Why not a bit of magnification?

Mostly going to be for shooting sub 150-200 yards. For what im doing with it it will be plenty.

This gives me a bit more precision than the stock peep sight and still keeps a fast target acquisition.

May very well get swapped for a scope at a later date. But got it at cost so not gunna complain.

I also shoot at that same distance with mine and the 1.5-4 Leupold fucks, a bit of magnification definitely makes a big difference

I definitely have a bit more room on the rail. Wonder if I could get away with bumping it forward and adding a flip up magnifier.

That'll depend if your rifle's length of pull can be adjusted. Because red dot magnifiers tend to have short eye relief.

Eventually I'll be swapping put the stock. So that shouldn't be an issue depending on the route I take. I think I might be ablenfo make it work.

Though, having never used one. My milage may vary.
