Buy recommendations I'm pretty sure this is illegal but what do you think?

https://youtu.be/QwfQ_DY-Wfc?si=63TGjI0cJi4GGIXs

Came across a post on gunpost selling these 100 round magazines and conversion kit for the Ruger 10/22 to accept them. They claim it's legal because the mags are not compatible with any pistol but this seems excessive and I haven't been able to find anything confirming what the ad claims. I know there are some high capacity magazines available for non-semiautomatic firearms available but to my understanding they rely on compatibility with semiautomatic guns only to be legal. Any gun legal scholars have some insight into this? If legal I kinda want one but this seems way too good to be true.

I make the mag adapters. It's legal.

I shill that thing everywhere at the range. Public range time being limited and expensive, it's nice being able to rock up with a ton of loaded $35 mags loaded to the gills instead of suffering through rotary mags.

So thankful i live in small town BC and pay 150$ for the range a year and usually have it all to myself on evenings

Same here, my range here on Vancouver island is practically private after 2pm

Which one. I'm in Squamish. Always wanted to try Campbell rivers 600y range

With the increase in popularity for the TM22 would such adapter ever be possible?

No, the feed geometry is not compatible.

No limit for rimfire.

This. Ruger 10/22 mags have a 10 round limit because of the Charger "pistol" being on the market, they are considered "dual purpose" magazines. The 597 doesn't have a pistol version, so the mags for those have no limit, and there are mag adapters for the 10/22 to accept them. All perfectly legal.

this seems excessive

Says who? I find it perfectly acceptable 👌. And yes its legal

My fingers. I have soft hands and loading that many cartridges gets sore.

That's what my maglula is for

Seems as if you lack knowledge of basic Canadian firearms laws.

There’s no magazine size limit for rimfire cartridges. You’ve always been able to buy drum magazines for .22’s. Has nothing to do with whether the firearm is semi-auto or not.

Not illegal 597 mags are not capped. That's why you can get a adapter from SBI for a ruger to fit these mags.

Promags for the 597 mags are HOT garbage tho.

This uses a GSG-16 drum mag w/ 597 adapter -> 10/22 adapter, lots of adapting but works.

Improvise, adapt, adapt, overcome.

It’s legal and it works well.

What’s excessive about it? 🤣

It is made by Shelpen, a mechanical engineering student. He did a good job on the adapter. Still prototype-ish with some minor issues such as the loose follower, but it is reliable and works unlike the Tommy Enterprise one! However, it is a pain to load a drum, so I don’t use it much.

It’s a great novelty at the range.

Someone should collab with him to put out a metal one and fix the follower.

Legal as far as I’m aware. There’s no restriction for semi automatic rimfire magazines.

The 10/22 is one exception because there was a pistol version I think. That’s why adapters for 597 magazines are so common for them

Not illegal. I have that adapter from that exact seller. Ruger 10/22 mags only have a 10 round limit due to the Charger pistol. There’s no 597 pistol variant, so no limit on the magazines. Go read the mag laws boss

Go read the mag laws boss

Technically, if he reads the actual laws even 10/22 mags larger than 10rounds should be legal.

The whole 10/22 mag thing is an interpretation via the RCMP and everyone just follows suit because its not worth the legal battle and everything that comes with the charges.

Trust me, not saying the laws are crystal clear by any stretch, but this one is one of the more clear laws IMO.

“With some exceptions, there is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic, rim-fire long guns.”

“Magazines designed to contain rim-fire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semi-automatic handgun are limited to 10 cartridges.”

2

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Aug 06 '26

Except the Ruger 10/22 large-capacity magazines were not designed for the charger pistol, right? Or were they?

Then we have LAR-15 pistol mags that are legal on rifles, so opposite of this situation? The rule is silly IMO when it comes to the 10/22 magazine.

“Magazines designed to contain rim-fire cartridges and designed or manufactured for use in a semi-automatic handgun are limited to 10 cartridges.”

The whole thing here is that the Ruger 10/22 rifle was manufactured first and what it was originally designed for.

Aside from that there was an exceptionally low number of Charger 'pistols' that ever even entered the Canadian market.

It's essentially antithetical to the whole reason we have Stanag Mags that can hold 10roudns of centerfire strictly because they are stamped as "pistol" magazines. Ironically also the same reason we can't use AK pattern mags also stamped as pistols because the RCMP says that AK-pattern firearms aren't common enough here to justify the 'pistol' badging.

Hey man, I ain’t disagreeing with ya😂 the laws are ridiculous in this country.

3

u/swift_gilford Aug 06 '26

honestly lol. I get headaches every time i have to talk about this stuff lol.

3

u/conanap Aug 06 '26

I wanna how long it took them to load 100 rounds lol

1

u/Lumindan Aug 06 '26

Without a speed loader? Ugh my thumbs would be feeling it after a range day

2

u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 Aug 06 '26

The GSG-16 has a spring assisted loading mechanism, but it still takes a good 10 minutes or so to load the whole drum.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this.

I love it. Pain sometimes not feeding on my sr22 unfortunately but runs great on my backpacker.
