I went through this recently and after looking through several 1-10, unless you're spending big dollars, you're not getting very good results at higher magnification.
I settled for a 1-6 Vortex Viper PST as I have all Vortex and it's an incredible scope. But I really also liked the Leupold VX5HD 1-5

Apex Edge. You can find them for under 1800 when they are on sale or on gunpost.

Steiner makes their predator 4 in a 2.5-10 for about 1200 street price. I have the 4-16 and it's a nice piece of kit, very nice glass. The P4 series is SFP though if that matters to you and I don't think there is parallax adjustment on the 2.5-10

IMO, in Canada that new Strike Eagle 1-10 is hard to beat at $1k provided you don't mind FFP.

I would go 1-6 or 1-8 to save weight unless there are scenarios where you're actually shooting in excess of 400 yards.
Primary arms has some good options

Look at the Trijicon Credo 1-8 or a SMRS 1-8 if you can find one.
