Shooting October 2025, breaking in my (then) new Mossberg 590A1 with target slugs.
Favorite pump by far. I also have the retrograde. Filmed with meta glasses.

Have you had the action jam on you shooting like that? My 590 jammed after some high volume shooting and that really hurt my faith in it.

I've used many different 590's and 590A1's during my military and civilian life, fired tens of thousands of rounds over the years, not one single jam or issue. I would bet my life on this platform. Are you short stroking? I had a shooting instructor in my youth who would kindly scream to us "ITS A SHOTGUN NOT A DAMN TEACUP! IT THRIVES ON ABUSE!". Rack it like it owes you money.

Definitely not short stroking. I fired and when I went to rack it, the action had seized entirely, with a couple mm of play. I was told to polish out where the shell seats. Maybe it was an ammunition issue vs a shotgun issue, it hasn't happened since.

It's a somewhat common issue. Mossver has some design problems and lately there have been some QC issues.

Short story long. I had a tac’d out 500 back in the day called big Bertha. It had black aces rail, ati stock at least 10 xtra shells mounted. I sold it years ago and have missed it ever since. FOC had 10% off sale on this past weekend so I picked up a 590r chisel. (Most expensive gun I’ve ever bought… for now) I can’t wait to slam some shit through it like I did with my old 500.

Nah you should break in with 3" magnum slugs. And by break in I mean break your shoulder. Nothing like sending down rounds on a new pump though - classic.
