Misc All 211 Canadian Tires That Stock Firearms Mapped

UPDATE: 201 stores confirmed as of August 7.

I've attached a table ranking provinces and territories (NWT being an outlier for obvious reasons) by the percentage of Canadian Tires in that region that stock firearms. I've also attached views of key areas like southern Ontario/Quebec, the Lower Mainland, the Calgary-Edmonton corridor, Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba, and Atlantic Canada. Up-to-date interactive view can be found here (deselect the other categories of retailers).

Additionally, you can view a spreadsheet embedded on my site listing exactly which stores are mapped and which aren't.

Stores were verified by calling and asking their sports desk or store managers if that location stocked firearms (yes I called every Canadian Tire in Toronto proper to make sure I didn't miss a hidden gem).

IMO, Quebec's low percentage of CTs that stock guns can be partially explained by the prevalence of Pronatures, Ecotones, and other retailers outside Montreal proper. Though I'd imagine the additional hassle of having to register every long gun sold in the province is another factor deterring franchise owners from stocking firearms. Considering that, I'd say 26% is actually pretty decent.

Removing Ontario and Quebec from the equation, you'd get just under 53% of Canadian Tires nationwide stocking guns.

Please let me know if anything has changed (a CT I didn't map actually does carry guns or vice-versa, etc).

Abbotsford only sells bb/pellet guns.

Salmon arm still sells firearms last time i went

8

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 03 '26

I will call both soon and ask the sports desk to verify exactly what they have.

2

u/WonkyTusky Aug 04 '26

Check salmon arm its been a while

7

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

You're right, Abbotsford does not sell guns. Salmon Arm is closed so I'll call them tomorrow.

6

u/WonkyTusky Aug 04 '26

Disappointing considering theres a lot of farmers and a few gun clubs in abbotsford/mission. At least theres a basspro and hical in mission

3

u/Sco0basTeVen Aug 04 '26

Salmon Arm does not sell firearms. BB/ pellet and paintball guns only

2

u/LandDepreciator Aug 04 '26

Langley CT sells firearms - bought one from there.

6312 200 St, Langley, BC V2Y 1A1

2

u/theborealethos Aug 04 '26

When I lived up there they also had an excellent assortment of ammunition. Bought a Mares Leg there.

2

u/PlantainAcceptable62 Aug 04 '26

Langley sells firearms

3

u/WonkyTusky Aug 04 '26

Customer service there is dogshit, better to go to reliablegun up the road

2

u/H0B013 Aug 04 '26

Mayhaps, but their gun department is vehemently anti fed and pro gun last time I talked to anyone there. The gun department manager at the time told me they refuse to work with law enforcement in any capacity unless absolutely required by law. Mind you that was like 5 years ago though

2

u/theborealethos Aug 04 '26

Was it the dude who would carry a .44 Russian S&W model 3 as a sidearm while hunting? If so, he was cool.

10

u/Jonuluk96 Aug 04 '26

Dieppe Canadian tire doesn’t sell firearms. Only bass pro in this entire area… super depressing

5

u/throwaway1010202020 Aug 04 '26

Fr me and the boys were in Moncton for the car show we were like oh let's go check Ctire might find a random deal. Nope it's somehow shittier than Canadian tire in Summerside PE.

3

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Will verify this and Amherst tmrw. Thank you for bringing to my attention :)

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Just called and confirmed. :( (Amherst also doesn't).

0

u/noydoc Aug 06 '26

Ehh, I’d give them both a pass only because of the Moncton shooter and the Portipique shooter.

6

u/scottsuplol Aug 04 '26

It’s wild the prices at Canadian tire I don’t know how they make any sales

9

u/22GageEnthusiast Aug 04 '26

I find that some stores will put certain ammo on clearance for like dirt cheap. One of my local CTs that only has ammo currently has on clearance....boxes of 308 for like $22 and Norinco red box ammo for under $10.

5

u/scottsuplol Aug 04 '26

Damn I would snatch that up quick

3

u/MostEnergeticSloth Aug 04 '26

I remember at the start of covid my local Canadian Tire hadn't updated their bulk .223 prices in...a long time. I ended up walking out with 3000 federal rounds for a little over $1000 thanks to that old ass sticker. On Ctires website one of those cases is currently $1099 lmao

6

u/whty Aug 03 '26

Amherst NS sells pellet guns and BB guns but no firearms. They do sell ammo.

2

u/Holiday_Equivalent15 Aug 06 '26

Does any CT in NS actually sell real firearms anymore? Every one I've been to in the past year only has pellet/bb guns and ammo.

I'll never not laugh and maybe weep a little at Bayer's Lake's former gun cabinet being stocked with overpriced Lego sets.

6

u/Cyclist007 Aug 04 '26

Side question: do you need to have a PAL to sell firearms at CT? Like, if there's no one on shift with a PAL - can they still sell you one?

And - I wish they'd show the firearms online. That's my only real gripe.

5

u/ProtoJazz Aug 04 '26

Yeah, if they don't have someone working that does they can't sell it. I've seen it happen, and it's in some cases why they're moving away from it. More work to coordinate schedules and hiring. Or god forbid they actually pay to have people get licensed, or at least time off for it.

3

u/NorthwindX7 Aug 04 '26

Yeah only a fella with a pal could come unlock the glass doors/winch line they used for lockup.

They did use trigger locks on lever actions though funny enough. IYKYK

2

u/JustikaD Aug 08 '26

At mine we have to zip tie the lever guns and put a trigger lock on them. "Store policy" lmao

2

u/NorthwindX7 Aug 08 '26

That's now but back when sks's were 199$, it was just a trigger action. If you wanted to cycle the action you could and the trigger lock would just fall off middle of the store

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

On paper they’re not supposed to sell firearms without having someone on duty with a PAL. Whether they uphold that rule always, I couldn’t tell you.

2

u/IceWide6245 Aug 04 '26

Last time I bought ammo at CT, I asked an employee (she was maybe 15-16) if there was someone who could help me. I thought she was going to get another employee, but she just came back with a clipboard and the keys, copied my pal number and handed me the ammo to put in my cart, I was quite surprised

3

u/julienjj Aug 04 '26

Pal not needed to sell ammo, only have to be eligible for one.

3

u/Norwest_Shooter on Aug 03 '26

Thunder Bay Centre Canadian Tire carries guns (fairly recently since they renovated).

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Thank you for this. I called and they confirmed. How recent was the renovation?

2

u/Norwest_Shooter on Aug 04 '26

2024 I wanna say?

3

u/Armedfist Aug 04 '26

However their pricing is not competitive at least the one nearby me.

3

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

After making several double-check verification calls, the tally is 202 Canadian Tires that sell guns. Two additions were Cochrane, Alberta and Thunder Bay Centre.

Eleven removals:

  • Dartmouth Crossing
  • Halifax - Quinpool
  • Amherst
  • Dieppe
  • Miramichi
  • Owen Sound
  • Waterloo
  • Quebec City Beauport
  • Quebec City Ste. Foy
  • Tsawwassen
  • Abbotsford

u/Conscious_Bid_8762 Aug 04 '26

I know trail bc has a descent selection but I didnt think Castlegar did ?

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Just called and they confirmed they have "several racks full" of rifles and shotguns :D

2

u/Conscious_Bid_8762 Aug 04 '26

Thanks I didn’t know that been in there a few times and never noticed

3

u/airborneJ Aug 04 '26

Orillia is one of the best.

2

u/Hotdog_Broth Aug 03 '26

I’ve never even checked if the one down the street from me sells firearms, but according to this map it does

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

If you could verify at some point that would awesome.

2

u/BrotherLefthand Aug 04 '26

The Canadian Tire in Abbotsford is now only stocking air rifles. I stopped in on my way through town... Not a single real firearm in the cabinet... They still stock ammo.

2

u/nyeahehfam Aug 04 '26

Thank you

2

u/He4vyD00dy Aug 04 '26

Lethbridge Canadian tire is awesome

2

u/SpinachStunning5547 Aug 04 '26

Quebec city canadian tires only carry ammo and bb guns. No actual guns

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Will flag those, ty.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Map updated accordingly.

2

u/AcanthisittaNo7338 Aug 04 '26

2 in the city near me stock guns, the local one is to small. Has ammo though.

2

u/canuck6969420 Aug 04 '26

Owen sound no longer sells guns

2

u/sheepsix al Aug 04 '26

Leduc represent!

2

u/TheGordR Aug 04 '26

That's why we love CT!!! But, there are local stores and other connection.

2

u/BeerGunsMusicFood Aug 04 '26

Be like Nunavut

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Lol, the gun stores per capita up there is comparable to U.S red states.

1

u/throwaway12-ffs Aug 04 '26

Makes sense why for the territories to be outliers.

2

u/DafuqStonr Aug 04 '26

If you fuel up at Petro, link your card to your Canadian Tire points, and eventually gas = free ammo. Ive redeemed my points many times towards 12gauge shells, primarily from gassing my car so often..

2

u/rhyno857 Aug 04 '26

Halifax and Dartmouth stores don't sell guns anymore but Bridgewater location does. Halifax has lego locked in the gun cabinets now...

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Thank you: I called the Quinpool and Dartmouth Crossing locations and they confirmed they didn't sell guns.

From talking with someone at the Bayers Lake location it looks like CTs in the area have very recently discontinued firearms sales (like at that store).

2

u/Albertan97 Aug 05 '26

Leduc CT has more guns than cabelas. Absolute beauty store

1

u/Windermyr Aug 04 '26

Surprised to see Courtenay, BC on that list, since I've never seen firearms there. Checked the website and it looks like they only sell air rifles.

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

FWIW no Canadian Tire lists their guns online - not on the main website anyhow.

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Hi, just called and confirmed that Courtenay does stock real guns in-store :)

1

u/Agent_1812 https://youtu.be/mrAwb9ptu9U Aug 04 '26

NAS Outdoors
1874 ON-20 #8B,
Thorold, ON L0S 1E6

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Oooh, they’re back open?

1

u/Agent_1812 https://youtu.be/mrAwb9ptu9U Aug 04 '26

were they closed?!? shit.

1

u/Eyeronick Aug 04 '26

Does the one in Cochrane AB no longer sell guns? They had a huge gun section back in like 2018.

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Last time I called they said they didn’t. Surprising. I don’t know the story about that one but I know that the new owner of the Strathmore Canadian Tire was anti-gun (crazy) and so got rid of the gun desk.

2

u/Eyeronick Aug 04 '26

Laaame, I used to live in Cochrane from 2016 to 2020 and they had one of the biggest selection in the province for a CT, rivaled Cabela's. I'll have to stop in next time I'm up that way. Calgary McLeod trail rains king these days in southern AB, probably the best reloading selection in / around the city.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

I suppose while I double-check everything else I can double-check Cochrane.

2

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Hah, I called and I was just told that they do in fact sell them, but only Thursday through Sunday (only one staff member has a PAL). Wonder why the other sales associate neglected to mention that.

1

u/Eyeronick Aug 04 '26

Interesting! I thought it was weird because the section was so huge in the store.

1

u/thatguy56436327 Aug 04 '26

I dont think the canadian tire in surrey has guns

1

u/-ThisIsMyDestiny- Aug 04 '26

Unless you are counting BB and pellet guns, there is only one location in Peterborough Ontario that sells firearms. The Lansdowne West one does but the chemong road one does not.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

When I called just now they did direct me towards Lansdowne for a better selection but they told me again that they have some .22lr rifles in stock.

2

u/-ThisIsMyDestiny- Aug 04 '26

I totally forgot about those. Yeah they probably have 6 or so Savage Arms .22 rifles. My bad. I don't ever go there to look anymore as Lansdowne has many many more calibers.

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

Call and Verify List:

  • Dartmouth Crossing No guns.
  • Halifax - Quinpool No guns.
  • Tsawwassen No guns.
  • Salmon Arm No guns.
  • Quebec Ste. Foy No guns.
  • Quebec Beauport No guns.
  • Owen Sound No guns.
  • Campbellford No guns.
  • Amherst No guns.
  • Dieppe No guns.
  • Waterloo No guns.
  • Courtenay Confirmed has guns.
  • Vancouver Grandview/Boundary Confirmed has guns.
  • Thunder Bay Centre Confirmed has guns.
  • Peterborough North Confirmed has guns. (.22 calibre only).
  • Cochrane, AB Confirmed has guns.

I will ask whoever is there to name specific firearms that they have available to verify that they indeed have real guns, and not just BB/pellet guns.

2

u/Sufficient-Net8238 Aug 04 '26

I can confirm Peterborough north has em, quite a big selection as well.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Oooh, more than .22lrs then I take it?

1

u/Sufficient-Net8238 Aug 04 '26

Definitely, also I didn't see cambelford Ontario on the map they used to sell some, not 100% sure about now.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Just called both, unfortunately Campbellford only has pellet and BB guns now. Peterborough North as you said does stock firearms, but apparently they only have .22 calibre rifles right now.

1

u/Sufficient-Net8238 Aug 04 '26

Damn, could've sworn they had other calibers sorry for the misinformation.

1

u/Sufficient-Net8238 Aug 04 '26

I'm also surprised you don't have Switzer's auction in Bancroft, I guess auction is different then retailers but Switzer's is massive!

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

Yeah, I would have added them if they had a retail store for sure lol. I'll double-check Campbellford tmrw.

2

u/Sufficient-Net8238 Aug 04 '26

You could always add a layer on your map for auction houses separate from retailers

1

u/platinumresto Aug 04 '26

The two in the lower mainland, looks like downtown and Delta area I don't think sell firearms either. Definitely not downtown but delta is a maybe

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

The ones in the GVA you might be referring to are the Tsawwassen and Grandview/Boundary location in Vancouver. I can certainly double-check tomorrow and see if they have them. I was surprised when I was told that the Grandview location had them but was reassured of this by both the associate at the store and from other associates at other nearby stores. Doesn't hurt to double-check.

1

u/platinumresto Aug 04 '26

If they do, id be extremely surprised. It is one of their bigger locations here however so who knows. Also Tsawwassen one is right beside a Cabela's so that might make sense but again, I've never seen any in there

3

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

I just called Grandview and they confirmed they do have quite a decent selection (.22lr semis, Tikka, Brownings, Winchesters, and Weatherby rifles). More on order. Only one in Vancouver proper.

5

u/platinumresto Aug 04 '26

Damn wtf I'll have to go check it out

1

u/Sav_Nessington Aug 04 '26

My local one unfortunately only has airguns. They do have ammunition and accessories though.

1

u/Few_Lynx2224 Aug 04 '26

I thought Waterloo only sold BB guns

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 04 '26

You're right, called and confirmed.

1

u/thestrangepenguin Aug 05 '26

Oromocto has ammo, but no firearms

1

u/_XNXX_com Aug 06 '26

NS stores sold a bunch more before they got robbed

1

u/GasOptimal5718 Aug 07 '26

Bracebridge Canadian tire only sells pellet/air guns and ammunition.

1

u/LeviathanOfLiberty Aug 07 '26

Updated, thank you!

1

u/Aggravating_Lawyer_6 Aug 08 '26

I swear I seen a post about Whitby CT, was there today and they only have air/pellet and ammo there.
