Figured I'd make a post of the outcome of redoing the stock and barrel with no experience outside of Google and Reddit assistance! Just a big thanks to the suggestions and some before and after pics! I'm pretty stoked about this and hope it's okay to post. Quite happy with the outcome and decided to just go with Tru Oil.

That's where this came from, a friend of my dad's gifted it as it was his brother's growing up on the farm and he had recently passed. So wanted to bring it back to life and he was so impressed and grateful to see the restoration of it! He said he almost regrets giving it away now, but know it will be well loved and has a great new home

Honestly was a great and easy project! Super easy action mechanics and taking apart. 4 screws in total including the butt plate, and then just the lower bolt for the tube mag adjustment. Well worth it to bring it back to life

Nice work! I bought a model 600 recently and w wanted to restore it.

i bought it from Ellwood and received it with rear sight screw stripped and seized up. The sight leaf was also filed wider which make it impossible to aim accurately. I'm still waiting for them to reply to my emails.

How did you do the rust removal and finish? I have an old schmidt rubin wich unfortunately rusted on the receiver and left unfinished spots when cleaned off

Honestly the rust restoration probably took the longest. I used 00 steel wool after taking it apart and ran over the barrel a ton to remove the rust. Then used blueing and let it sit until it looked horrible and white. Then rinsed it with water, dried with a rag, buffed with a cloth and then used the steel wool again and repeated that process probably 6 times. It took about 4 hours. Once that was done using a bore cleaning kit to make sure it was dry and no debris in the bore, chamber, or feeding path. Then oiled the bore and bolt.

Yeah usually I put the blueing on wait 60 seconds and wipe with a damp rag. It wasn't taking well with that method. So I let the blue sit for about 5 minutes and then the metal had a white powdery look, assuming from oxidization. Then I rinsed it under the hose, dried it with a towel, buffed with the 00 steel wool, and then buffed with a microfiber cloth. Then repeated that process letting the blueing sit again until it whitened. Did that six times total. Then finished with a 60 second blueing and damp cloth wipe. It was a lighter color at the end of the process and was still worried as it wasn't super dark. But let it sit 24 hours before reassembly and it had a much darker almost black tone after two days. Well worth the process.
