Feets / Collection / My build Anyone a fan of sako L61r
Recently got kinda hooked on these. Top ones a 30/06 with newer leopold
Middle ones a 375 h&h with a older leopold
Bottom One is a 7mm rem mag with a old red field
Can’t beleive the craftsmanship and smooth buttery actions and beautiful wood for 50 plus year old hunting rifles.
Would like to get a l579 in .308. found one with original iron sights but my bank account is saying No!!! But !!!

I'm new to this world..
Just picked up my firist rifle- a T3X, and I'm so happy with it, I can't really imagine what one of these would be like.
These Finnish arms are something

I love my T3x in .308 it’s a tack driver. Just something about the older wood furniture that just floats my boat.

Yes, I got the 308.hunter with wood stock because I love it, but the old furniture is next level. And mine cost a pretty penny, I can't imagine the cost of the other sakos

I paid between 1100-1700 a rifle which is expensive but compared to my new marlins without optics it didn’t seem out of line. None of these appear to have been used excessively.
Tack driver just means very accurate moa
My tikka is a synthetic stock I wanted something I wasn’t afraid to beat up, have the .308 and the .22 versions thou the .22 long is another model that eludes me at the moment. Ended up with a ruger American gen 1 in .308 because a friend needed cash it’s my truck gun, if I’m aloud such a thing..I really like wood furniture the most though.

That's insanely cheap. I got my t3x for 1600 and I assume.your Sakos are better than the tikka

The beauty of buying used rifles. The down side might be a reason someone’s getting rid of them. Thou new rifles aren’t a guarantee either. So far I haven’t got a used rifle that’s been garbage but I’ve heard stories.

I just found out about the general short barrel life of hunting rifles. Do you generally factor in a new barrel for a well seasoned gun?

I try to buy ones that look like they haven’t been used to much, but if I really like it and need a new barrel so be it. These old Finnish barrels seems to last a lifetime or two if Maintence is done or so I’m told. Now if it was a 300 win mag that might be a different story.

That's refreshing to hear! I wonder how long my tikka 308 will last. It's hard as fuck to find a gunsmith around here, and the barrel itself costs half the price of the gun

Why anyone buys new bolt action hunting rifles when you can get older Sakos for cheaper has always blown my mind

I would highly reccomend looking for an old one seems like lots of people had them has safe queens and are either passing on or moving their collections onwards.

Got a steyr mannlicher luxus and love the old wood. Lost the nose cone for it but what beautiful rigle

Does that metal medallion mid way on the stock have a function?

It’s a cross bolt, in that position it’s right behind the recoil lug. Some rifles have two, with another one close to the trigger guard. Heavy recoiling rifles can split stocks over time and the cross bolts help keep the stock together and spread the load from the recoil out.

Supposed to help keep the stock from breaking is my understanding. Just a dowel essentially I believe? Nota 100% positive
