It's almost as if the SPAS-12 was name-banned in 1992 via an OIC...

The extremely similar but older SPAS-11, however, remains non-restricted.

Squid Ward voice: SpongeBob there is no way that will….. Well…. Like…. That might actually work……

It's actually called the SPASS-12 so fingers crossed haha

The m3 was banned, but sulun’s turkish clone of it was let through. Hopefully this is similar

6

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jul 30 '26

No it's not the same. TI said the Sulun one was built on a M2 receiver (therefore NR), and the receiver is the firearm itself.

The Turkish SPAS-12 clone is literally a (near) 1 to 1 SPAS-12. There's no way it would be legal.

However, it would be completely legal for them to make a SPAS-11 clone, and then sell us SPAS-12 furnitures...

Honestly I just want the looks, they make make it a m4 clone semi and I'll still buy it lol

3

u/murd3rsaurus Jul 30 '26

Yep. Rule of thumb: if it can run pump or semi, it's illegal

4

u/TheOriginalFarmboy Jul 30 '26

The Tac12 runs pump or semi and is perfectly legal

1

u/murd3rsaurus Jul 30 '26

What's the capacity? CFO explanation when I worked at Flahertys was always the 5 round limit for semi vs unlimited for pump, they didn't want to make exceptions for the SPAS or the M3

5

u/s0viet_mini Jul 30 '26

5 round capacity. Standard for semi shotguns. Won’t be allowed to use unlimited like manual actions

1

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jul 31 '26

5 rounds, as a semi.

The "they didn't want to make exceptions" one was complete and utter BS, because the M3 was banned alongside the M1 Tactical models, which was semi only. The 1992 OIC also banned a few other tactical shotguns that are semiauto-only, like the USAS.

u/Acceptable_Visit_115 Jul 31 '26

Wrong. Both the SPAS-11 and Beretta M3P are pump-semi hybrid shotguns that are Non-Restricted.

There are zero bans on hybrid-action shotguns, just OIC name-bans on the Benelli M3, SPAS-12, and SPAS-15.

Yup, a SPAS-12 lookalike based on an existing NR receiver

It depends on if it’s prohibited by name which it very well could be

u/GonZo_626 Jul 30 '26

Spas-12's were banned in the 90's. I do believe because of Terminator 2.

9

u/IntelligentGrade7316 Jul 30 '26

I am sure it was because of G.I. Joe.

Every cool firearm in it has been banned since.

18

u/rastamasta45 Jul 30 '26

Very true, my prayer is the Benelli M3 is prohibited by name but we got that Turkish clone of it, so maybe the same for this….

The Turkish one was built on a M2 or M4 receiver iirc, so it's a M2 variant lol

1

u/kinghalifax902 Jul 30 '26

The term variant is very very important in this discussion.

u/poopfartdoodoofard85 Jul 30 '26

not a chance, too scary looking

3

u/M1L0 Jul 30 '26

Exactly what I thought of lol. Was that the same gun?

5

u/CanadianBacon2-0 Jul 30 '26

It was a SPAS-12 yeah. I always remembered he was what seemed really close and then deployed the butt..

2

u/soundssarcastic bc Jul 30 '26

Yeah, and this movie is basically why its prohib in Canada

2

u/CanadianBacon2-0 Jul 30 '26

Nah, it’s how the gun looks and operates. I have a 1301 that’s the same “roughly” thing but looks different and that’s fine. Black guns with any tactical furniture is what I understand was the requirement.

14

u/Forsaken_Edge_9184 Jul 30 '26

I checked with a retailer and they said they tried but its banned as a variant by name

13

u/Weak-Coffee-8538 Jul 30 '26

Any firearms in movies were banned. The Demolition Man gun was banned and wasn't even produced. It was a prototype and banned. Lol

2

u/Dexcessive Jul 30 '26

Not a movie gun, but the G11 is also banned by name iirc.

4

u/GodsGiftToWrenching Jul 30 '26

They're banned by name so, probably not. Which isnt really an L anyways as I've heard the spas 12 really isn't that good of a shotgun

That being said i have loved jurassic Park my entire life and would buy one the second a clone enters canada

3

u/BCURANIUM Jul 30 '26

having shot one before, you're not missing anything. There are better tactical shotguns out there.

u/curry_fiend Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

Its gonna be prohibited for being a Spas 12 variant

Just get a Maverick 88 with Ati Top folder and call it a day, I also posted 2 of my cope Spas-12 wannabe creations previously

Hatsan Escort above Mossberg 500 below

2

u/under_hunter82376 Jul 30 '26

most likely not . which is sad .

2

u/moonpie_888 Jul 30 '26

If I called a spas 12 even under sulun it's banned

2

u/Xaxxus 6d ago

its here now. Mine just arrived. Tactical imports sells them

1

u/rastamasta45 6d ago

I ordered mine and just waiting to pick it up lol

1

u/thxxx1337 Jul 30 '26

I'd buy that

1

u/kinghalifax902 Jul 30 '26

A big noooooope

1

u/Tight_Try3311 Jul 30 '26

Its probably jam city anyway

1

u/Vahuo89 Jul 30 '26

If it ships with this furniture, it's pretty much a guarantee it will be.

But, if it's sold with a regular stock/furniture, it could well pass.

Then you just buy the furniture later.

1

u/KorporalKarnage Jul 31 '26

In order for it to be close to the original it has to function like a Temu timepiece.

Oh, it's Turkish so yeah, it'll be damn close to the original...

1

u/TheRealTwooni Jul 31 '26

Great. More Turkish shotguns. Exactly what the Canadian gun buyer craves….

1

u/No_Praline_1835 6d ago

Ive seen people with it in Canada so i guess its legal?

1

u/Thrawn7thfleet 3d ago

I saw one today at a gun show

3

u/Armedfist Jul 30 '26

They just have to change the name to non binary 12

1

u/__phil1001__ Jul 30 '26

I'll be back

0

u/DougMacRay617 Jul 30 '26

Who cares, if the Italians couldnt get it right, the turkish definitely won't
