Shooting Got to try out my new gun

Picked up a CZ 457 Varmint on Friday and had to try it out asap. The wood on the stock is gorgeous, I’m not sure if they accidentally used a nicer grade on it but it’s the best patterning I’ve seen on a rifle.

Only put about a hundred rounds through it so far. I’m a little let down by how poorly it was grouping at 50 yards. I’m sure some of it is me being unfamiliar with it but I can get much nicer groups out of my wife’s 10/22. Middle groups were with subsonic Eley and seemed to be the best so far.

Don’t judge the scope mounting, I quickly threw it on at the range last minute. It will soon live on my preordered Makasi.

I’ve got 8 new ones to try next time out, but I’ll grab those too and see how they perform. Hopefully something will agree with it!

The bolt takes a bit more force to lock than it looks like other people online need. Is that normal from it being new or something that I need to address?

Not sure how much force but mine is stiff as well. It's a match chamber in the varmint with the heavy barrel so it's tight. I wouldn't say mine feels unusually stiff though so maybe not quite normal? Also as /u/BuyRelevant1000 mentioned below, mine also eats pretty much anything, just some ammo groups tighter than others - in my case I got lucky that the cheap stuff performs so well for me.

I would say it’s stiff but I don’t have a frame of reference for what it should feel like as it’s my first bolt action. Doesn’t seem like it’s binding on anything, so maybe it is just the tight tolerances?

Match chamber is very tight. It’s perfectly normal
