Let's try to create a full bore handgun Olympic sport.

That’s what I’m thinking man, like a 9mm and 45ACP Class. I wonder what the hurdles would be? It’s time we took our sport back. F this nonsense.

IPSC is trying to get into the Olympics.

That would change everything for whoever has a handgun exemption

8

u/Fuck_you_all22 2d ago

Given how corrupt the international sporting organizations are, probably a couple billion to bribe ioc members.

u/Nilotaus 2d ago

Long-range rifle shooting with centre-fire rifle cartridges used to be an Olympic sport that was even broadcasted, that's what that Musgrave RSA rifle on marstar & others like it were built and sold for.

Even just having something like this/this as a national sport would be cool.

Nice bro. Can you explain how you got the exemption in AB? Who issued the letter? See you on the podium!

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

I kinda outlined it in a few other comments in the thread if you still have question lmk.

Trump gave him the exemption, they are part of umurica now.

u/Markthehare 2d ago

Canada better take gold, silver, and bronze at the next Olympics

I am also in the process of becoming an Olympian. May inquire: 1) which retailer? 2) cost? 3) how many mags does this come with?

16

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Imported through IRG. Cost including all fees and taxes, shipping etc came out to roughly 1300 Canadian. These come with 2 magazines I think.

8

u/thingk89 2d ago

I’m confused, they are only $350 usd?…

7

u/number75 2d ago

IRG charges market rate for some of their guns. The TX22 has a roughly 500-600 Market Rate in the US due to the FRT that's available for the TX22. Add 100 USD for IRGs handgun fee, add shipping and tax, and I can see it coming out to 1300 CAD.

3

u/newtoabunchofstuff 2d ago

Yikes. 1300 for the gun alone or accessories as well?

3

u/Disastrous-Panic-87 2d ago

Still able to get a handgun... Still worth it

2

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Just the pistol and magazines.

2

u/Theonewhorealized 2d ago

what pistol is that? that looks super sick bro. i love it

2

u/NotAPlumberBro 2d ago

TX22 TORO? It should come with 5 mags

2

u/number75 2d ago

That was only a certain level/package. The regular retail TORO only comes with an extended magazine and a flush fit 15 round magazine iirc.

1

u/Ok_Competition6823 2d ago

No they don’t that’s a bundle deal that comes as a package sometimes.

So I was looking at the SFC website and it says:

  • Must be able to provide documentation substantiating that they train, compete or coach in a shooting discipline that is on the programme of the International Olympic Committee or the International Paralympic Committee.

What type of info did they require exactly?

10

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Personally I took pictures of my targets (the best 5 shot groupings of the day once per week) for 2 months and gave them that as my training data. They were signed and dated at the range.

4

u/WALRUS1902033 2d ago

Did you have a range officer sign them. Also where did you get a handgun to shoot with?

9

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

I used an air pistol. And I self signed.

3

u/FTW-gf 2d ago

What's a good air pistol to use?

3

u/Same-Ability-556 2d ago

Interesting. I spoke with someone at the SFC not too long ago and the specifically told me that live fire was required. Maybe you got lucky?

1

u/dgod40 2d ago

I just spoke with SFC and I have no idea how thos guy got through with the way he did. Good for him but they are asking for way more than he said. He mentioned a catch 22 but not what it is.

3

u/WALRUS1902033 2d ago

You are a god send. I wasnt if sure that qualified. Looks like i gotta go get an air pistol.

1

u/Used_Abrocoma9404 1d ago

Just rent a 22 at your range.

1

u/Used_Abrocoma9404 1d ago

Does the range have to be recognized or can I just do this at any range?

3

u/unspankable1 2d ago

Sorry I'm a noob. Is this exemption only for .22?

2

u/Used_Abrocoma9404 2d ago

Can you help a brother out with some guidance? I've been trying for months to get one in Alberta. Im in Edmonton. I have my RPAL. How do I get a handgun?

7

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

You apply through the SFC. It’s really pretty simple. They have the whole process outlined on their site.

1

u/FailedCoder86 2d ago

I am about to go about getting my exemption by competing but I am having to travel like 2 hours

1

u/moonpie_888 2d ago

Hey so how long did it take to get once you sent in the application for them to respond back? And did you import through I run guns??

2

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

About 2 weeks and yes. IRG

1

u/Think_Lengthiness686 2d ago

How many times did you compete?

6

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Zero.

2

u/Think_Lengthiness686 2d ago

Thx for the info. I was under the impression that we have to compete before applying. Looks like I was wrong.

1

u/1anre 2d ago

Do these shoot 9mm?

3

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Despite what the compensator says, no.

1

u/number75 2d ago

Congratulations OP! I recieved the exemption for my own TX22 Comp recently, but I haven't had a chance to take it out yet. But I hope it's as enjoyable for you to shoot as people say it is!

1

u/Ok_Competition6823 2d ago

What light is that?

2

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

Olight PLX

1

u/Embarrassed-Egg-9671 2d ago

Gosh, you're perdy😉

1

u/Cool_Corey 2d ago

And the knife...?

1

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago edited 2d ago

The knife is a bench made something or other. I don’t really like knives but the cerakote looked cool. It was kind of expensive.

Edit found my receipt it’s called the Adamas in ODG

1

u/RiskClassic889 2d ago

Is Quebec is a lost cause or anyone here knows how to do it in Poly's province ?

1

u/gugz92 2d ago

You never did have the makings of a varsity athlete lol jk congrats on the exemption!

1

u/Fuck_you_all22 2d ago

Kudos. I can feel natalie and gary are planning to rescind the olympic sports exemption.

2

u/HaliRumble 2d ago

Has anybody been able to confirm eligibility in NS if one were to use SFC?

1

u/Elbro_16 2d ago

How long did your transfer take from IRG? I’m at like 2 weeks now

1

u/FAMOUS0612 2d ago

Such a stupid law but nice gun

1

u/SERB79 2d ago

Very nice brother, love it 💪

1

u/chilly__willy 2d ago

What air pistol and targets did you use?

1

u/chilly__willy 2d ago

And would you mind sending me a DM with details on exactly how you went through this process 🙏🏻

1

u/YDpr99 1d ago

Does this work in Ontario?

1

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 2d ago

Did you go through the SFC or Alberta Handgun Association?

22

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

The AHA was completely useless. A total fudd mentality. They wasted a month of my time “waiting for the board to review”

I went through the SFC they were very helpful and professional.

2

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 2d ago

What range did you shoot matches at to get your letter?

I'm working with my range to get something going.

6

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

I didn’t shoot any matches. I politely explained the catch 22 and my situation and they were more than understanding.

2

u/CanadianBacon2-0 2d ago

What’s the catch 22 you explained? And your situation?

-7

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well that's good they worked with you.

I know of a bunch people who are in your situation. If you're willing, shoot me an email. I'd like to get details of how you asked the SFC so I can pass it along. tristan@spectreballistics.com

34

u/MapleNationalist 2d ago

I’m good. I tried ordering stuff from you 2 months ago and sent 3 emails and no one ever responded. Get fucked lol

3

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ok, that's interesting. Sorry about that. I'm going to guess gmail dumped your emails into spam and we missed it. If you still do want some of our stuff reach out directly to me and I'll help you.

So these are only for albertans? Can someone go to Alberta get it and come back to Ontario?

1

u/One_Programmer613 2d ago

They joined SFC which is Canadian, you can do the same thing in Ontario.

1

u/Top-Researcher-8937 2d ago

Yes but they have a special 22lr exception right?

For us in Ontario Iam understanding we need to join the SFC then show we are competing in handgun competition in order to get that handgun?

Am I wrong?

1

u/One_Programmer613 2d ago

They said in another comment they joined sfc and went thru the process but it got lost down below.

1

u/Top-Researcher-8937 2d ago

Do you think it’s ok to email and ask SFC this question about how I can go about getting a handgun or it would be flagged as weird?

1

u/One_Programmer613 2d ago

Say you want to start shooting standard or sport pistol but don’t have access to a firearm and if an air pistols would work and how you could track progress etc.

2

u/Top-Researcher-8937 2d ago

Got this response:

You will need to borrow pistols until you have enough experience to qualify for an exemption letter and are able to locate a firearm that works.

You should keep score sheets and if possible have the RSO sign and date the score sheets.

You should also look to compete either in your club or in local matches. Many of the smaller open matches at the Barrie Gun club and the Pan Am Centre have loaners available if you reach out to the Match Director to ask.

I would recommend you look for a club and other opportunities where new shooters are supported.
