News / Politics / Activism Some people just dont know about the OIC

Some people legitimately do not know about the OIC, ive seen countless mini 14s, and Ruger PC Carbines at gunshows this year alone

Some people just never got the email i guess

> Gross 2.8 for a junk rod you can’t take to the gunsmith

Maybe not your gunsmith

3

u/MourningWood1942 2d ago

You can take it to Mike Smith from Canmore

1

u/noveltyisthe 2d ago

Why can’t you take it to a gunsmith?

13

u/illknowitwhenireddit 2d ago

Because it's prohibited with no grandfather clause like any of the previous 12.x prohibs

I usually report the add to admins and message the poster to inform them. I tell them for thier own welfare that they should pull the add and why. It floors me that so many people capable of legally owning a firearm are so ignorant of the law. It's a bad look on all of us when these are posted or people get charged.

To be fair sometimes it's plain crazy how fast the laws can change. On December 5, 2024 out of the blue Public Safety announced a general briefing and boom 324 firearms announced prohibited effective immediately. If you just so happened to sell a prohibited rifle right after the OiC you effectively became a criminal and worse people only received emails detailing the bans from the RCMP around 8 days after.

In an effort to avoid panic buying they have made it extremely hard for legal gun owners to stay up-to-date with the laws. But yeah after 1.5 years you should know what is legal and what's not

Which is why people shouldn’t give a shit about arbitrary changes to gun laws. The goal isn’t to stop crimes, it’s to criminalize law abiding gun owners so the Liberal government can look like they are doing something about a problem they don’t have the competency to solve.

17

u/illknowitwhenireddit 2d ago

The goal is complete and total disarmament, and they'll use any excuse or reason to do it.

u/Cope180-Enjoyer 3d ago

Completely disagree. The government should never be able to alter gun laws... Why? No new firearm mechanisms have been made for a 100 years. Nothing has changed.

Put the criminals in jail, easy.

its even worse then that. the RCMP have prohibited random items you dont need a license for like airsoft, blank and bb guns as well as some bladed weapons over the last 20 years. the only notice being a generic bulletin on their outdated website. which i doubt someone who bought it at a surplus store 10 years before then threw in a closet is closely monitoring

u/Canadian-AML-Guy 3d ago

To he honest, if i wasn't on reddit I wouldn't know. I dont interact with gun people regularly, and never got written notice from the RCMP from the ban.

It gets worse. I'm LE and I can't even begin to describe how many LEO have 0 idea what I'd prohib and what is legal. I only know because I follow here and am passionate about my own collection.

18

u/swift_gilford 2d ago

I've literally had my LEO friend call me during a shift because they went to a call and came across some shotguns and needed to clear them and didn't know how because they couldn't get a hold of the person they usually call for that.

Found out after apparently they don't train Ontario cops on shotguns anymore and this LEO doesn't have nor wants their PAL.

LMFAO these children need to get a REAL job!

1

u/FRANK_R-I-Z-Z-O 1d ago

What area of the province was this in? The guy who did my safety class does firearms training for the opp in my area.

1

u/swift_gilford 1d ago

YRP. This is going back about 4 years ago when this happened. To my understanding, or at least at the time they essentially only get trained on their service weapons i.e. handgun and 'patrol carbine'

2

u/FRANK_R-I-Z-Z-O 1d ago

No kidding. I mean you can't train them on absolutely every single thing but training guys on common stuff that they are going to encounter in their travels and need to make safe it's probably not a terrible idea.

3

u/sl33plessnites 2d ago

What does LE and LEO mean ?

7

u/Interesting-Intern93 2d ago

Law Enforcement LE Law Enforcement Officers LEO

1

u/sl33plessnites 2d ago

Ah okay thanks

2

u/Fried_Chicken_ASMR 2d ago

Law Enforcement / Law Enforcement Officer

4

u/swift_gilford 2d ago

and never got written notice from the RCMP from the ban.

and even if you did, the letter never specified all the models or provided it a link. It was just "something you have may now be prohib"

2

u/Ok_Committee464 2d ago

It makes non compliance hard if everyone self reports like that.

2

u/shadeffect 2d ago

The admins approved the add before its posted. You sound like a rat.

150

u/Cope180-Enjoyer 3d ago

No need to nark on him posting his name.

104

u/DougMacRay617 3d ago

Yeah this sub is full of bootlickers

18

u/Important-Wait-1389 2d ago

its all the city slickers from BC , straight Karen geeks

5

u/Sodas_guy 2d ago

Mannnn... I don't wanna be in BC anymore 🫩 I just wanna wear nods and run around in the forest like a fairy 😭

4

u/Important-Wait-1389 2d ago

i’m from BC we can frolic together >.< only thing in our way is dropping $15K+ minimum at coldharborsupply 😭😭

49

u/thecoolernameistaken 3d ago

Well if they’re gonna criminalize you anyway… no but fr I know it’s unpopular but let them. What’re they gonna do punish us all for the actions of a few bad apples? Oh wait

17

u/WSBBroker 3d ago

Yeah.. there are people getting around it . Buying and selling NR. But the gov forced people’s hands. Can’t blame em even tho I don’t think I’ll join

26

u/COBETCKNNcoyuz 3d ago

What gun shows

25

u/Top_Importance6216 3d ago

I wanted one of these until I found of what an actual piece of shit they are.

10

u/DougMacRay617 3d ago

Yeah they were modern garbage rods, both gens

1

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw 1d ago

half the guns that where prohibited where poorly made jam-o-matics that used to be the butt of jokes on here. but due to being OIC'd basically became martyred

1

u/DougMacRay617 1d ago

If we are talking OIC thr trash you speak of didnt make up 50% it was more like 25%. Its the bans that followed to oic that made up the bulk of Canadian trash poles

1

u/thecoolernameistaken 2d ago

Yea but how sick is the 12.5 model though

11

u/Itchy-Interaction-61 2d ago

Why narc him out who gives a fuck

2

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw 1d ago

yea if this was america owners would still be buying and selling them regardless and sure as hell not doing the pal verification for non-restricted transfers.

like if you go on the virginia gun owners sub its full of people saying how they plan to not follow any of the new gun control being passed there and keep on enjoying the shooting sports same as before.

Those Wish-special solvent traps are barely good enough for .22lr. Even then they're short-lived consumables and putting them on center-fire rifles is basically asking for trouble.

These guys bought a similar one because it's allowed there and it didn't leave their range in one piece by the end of the day.

Being able to buy suppressors over the counter and even bought online & shipped to your post office box or house would be a dream come true, but we got to make sure that cheaply made pot-metal junk stays off the market so people don't end up like this guy.

2

u/Sodas_guy 2d ago

🤣I had no idea bout these but now I'm happy

8

u/ABT653 2d ago

I honestly think this is the rcmp trying to bait people

14

u/AndreiHoo 3d ago

Hello fedpost

3

u/StrangePiper1 2d ago

Yeah. I’ve seen posts for illegal stuff on gunpost. Usually a brand new account with no reviews. “Looking for machine gun parts” was one. Nice try horse cop lol

5

u/Both-Employ840 2d ago

Setup

2

u/StrangePiper1 2d ago

That’s my thought. Some horse cop trying to bait someone into committing a crime.

u/Floba_Fett 3d ago

What's the OIC?

40

u/pr0cyn1c 3d ago

The building next to the YMCA

13

u/Response-Cheap 3d ago

That's what he says after he finds out the firearm he's trying to sell is now prohibited.

1

u/Floba_Fett 3d ago

😂 Seriously though I just got my PAL not long ago so idk what an OIC is 😅

25

u/Response-Cheap 3d ago

Order in Council. The Canadian equivalent of an american "executive order". It's how they banned all our guns. Rather than putting it to a vote and passing legislation, they essentially wrote a list of guns on the back of a napkin and Trudeau signed it. Job done. That's an OIC.

4

u/gnu_gai 2d ago

To add onto the other reply: an Order in Council is essentially the Prime Minister simply declaring a law on behalf of the King; and by convention the power was only used in genuine public emergencies such as war time (for example during WW1 persons of "enemy nationality" were sent to internment camps via OiC). Orders in Council are subject to judicial review, and so can be overturned once the SCC gets around to it

3

u/Whispersfine 3d ago

It’s too late, naetwon

2

u/Motor_Historian2634 1d ago

Either they dont know or its an RCMP plant

1

u/anonyme450 3d ago

Wait you're in Midland, too? Hell yeah.

1

u/Fuck_you_all22 2d ago

Oh man, natalie and gary are dancing now.

1

u/OrientalSells95 1d ago

The fucking candy its named after has more structural integrity and reliability 🤣 Go fuck yourself “$2800” LOL

1

u/kinghalifax902 2d ago

Hope you informed him

-5

u/ThePoeticJester 2d ago

Oh they know, had a guy at the range with a VZ61, told him those were banned last year.

He played the "dont understand, no english" card before I told him: "hey man, you get caught its your ass and your license so you do what you want" Instantly packed it away and hid the mags/ammo

4

u/cautiouslyathrowaway 2d ago

It costs a grand total of nothing to mind your own business

1

u/ThePoeticJester 1d ago

Its a range where often CBSA and cops are at. Its better I say something than to let him get busted by them, or even just the care taker who would ban them..

-2

u/Interesting-Intern93 2d ago

I do Wonder if Law Enforcement Officers are allowed to take there Glock 9mm department issued to a Membership / Range. Honestly i feel they do not get enough Range Time now in Canada. Would like to hear from some ontario LEO.

3

u/Ok-Factor30 2d ago

Yes, they're allowed

2

u/Status_Ticket5044 2d ago

I hope so. Not sure why the down votes. If he goes to a membership range, where he is an actual memner, it means he's got a RPAL, which means he is not ignorant of current firearm law and is getting reps with his weapon. Win-win?

u/thecoolernameistaken 2d ago

Gun stays at work

1

u/Motor_Historian2634 1d ago

To be fair we can still shoot our handguns so they probably can too. I feel like after the OIC'S though, ranges should ban them from being able to practice. shitty to penalize the individual officers because most of them i talk to at the range are nothing but kind. but then again they penalized us for the actions of a few so they reap what they sew.
