Feets / Collection / My build Valtro PM-5 Shotgun
Hi fellas!
This is my original Italian Valtro PM-5 box magazine fed 12 gauge pump shotgun.
It was initially produced by Valtro in the 80s, and Brixia continued production after Valtro went down.
The magazine takes 7 shells, and are quite expensive to source.
It was used by various police and military units, and French Navy is still keeping them in service.
Overall, I love the pistol grip and fixed stock, and the fact that it is a reliable mag-fed shotgun. The 14” barrel makes it quite maneuverable and gives it a cool look. Some people do not like the length of pull though, which I don’t mind.
Note: Trigger lock was temporarily removed for pictures; it is on it at all times.

Nice! That's a mean looking gauge! The long stock and mag almost gives it 30rnd FAL aesthetics. Have you grouped it with slugs before? I assume the porting was custom work you had done? I swapped out my 14in Shockwave build for a 1301T. I still miss the short pump though, something so cool about compact shotguns.

The porting is actually factory original! No changes have been made to this shotgun after purchase.
I recently inherited it so can’t share experience with grouping slugs yet. It was kept in storage for a very long time with no use, so I can’t wait to get the dust/rust off of it!

Why would it matter if you have a trigger lock on it or not? Cool shotgun btw

I posted my long range rifle the other day and someone thought that it was a good idea to warn me about it… and they removed the comment after. I just put the note there to avoid Karen-like comments hahah

Nice lookin boomstick.... have you had any issues with feeding, etc? I've heard that if you get a mag-fed shotgun, you should get some peanut butter too, cause youre gonna have a fuck ton of jam. Lol

I had a Norinco mag fed 870 clone that was perfectly reliable and it was Chinese, so I don't think they're inherantly unreliable. Some models are probably a bit more flawed than others.

Mine is reliable after putting some tape on the magazine feed lips to help retention. The metal mags need some work but the poly ones are great.

Thank you! Haven’t tried it yet but the previous owner said that he had no issues with cycling.
I also don’t dig mag fed shotguns in general, but I guess pump action instead of semi-auto leaves less room for peanut butter jam combo lol

I rock the Iron Horse Sentry and it's honestly been a blast, never once had any problems with feeding

There probably the most reliable mag fed pump shotgun on the planet. I own 2 ,been using them for 3 gun since like 2015.
Mine has only jammed when either: 1)the feed lips been bent from dropping the mag during speed loads. 2) Appearently while feeding some buskshot last weekend, much to my surprise and disappointment.

You didnt mess out, these were one the worst shotguns to ever grace the Canadian market.

u/NIBLZ_HAMSTR Jul 21 '26
Hahaha yeah... im not terribly surprised.

Maybe you can check out Mossberg 590RM - it’s a similar pump shotgun with a mag design!

My first thought when I held it was "I could blow my fingers off if im not careful.. "

Really nice. Are these pretty rare in Canada? What do they usually go for?

Damn that's cool never seen one before.

u/Wide-Ship-9409 Jul 21 '26
Thank you! Neither did I until I was given this lol
I am not certain how rare they are in Canada, but they at least don’t seem to be common.

u/loormi Jul 21 '26
Im trying to find one for sale right now lmao

Lol best of luck! It might be easier to find a Brixia version btw. I don’t think they will be too expensive (I hope)!

Are you able to cycle the action when the mag is in and you dont have any shells in it? Mine seems to always get caught on the mag follower. Not that it really matters when you have shells in it.
2
u/Wide-Ship-9409 Jul 22 '26
Yes, it actually does cycle when the mag is in with no shells! And this action is desperate for some good lube session, so I feel like it might be the mag follower as you said.
It may sound stupid, but have you tried putting a touch of oil at the very back of the follower?

How’s the mag availability? And reliability ?

u/Wide-Ship-9409 Jul 22 '26
Magazines are reliable but rare and expensive; saw some sold around $150-200.

What pack?

A plate carrier bag with straps from AliExpress. It would be a moderate price if you were to order from Canada but it was relatively expensive for AliExpress (CAD 125) - so the quality feels like I would pay 300 for it in Canada.
For the love of ungatekeeping, I am sharing the link below. I can also share the full list of survival gear content of the bag if people are interested:

Trigger lock is on it at all times? Why would you mention that? Trigger locks aren't even required under some storage circumstances, and nobody cares if you take it off to take pictures.
Do you take the trigger lock off to shoot it? How well do the mags feed? I'm always curious about how well they feed, especially after being loaded and stored for long periods of time. I've also seen someone modify Turkish shotgun mags to work in these guns, which might be a cheaper way to get some if you're handy.

u/Wide-Ship-9409 Jul 21 '26
I fully agree! Someone gave me shit about not having a trigger lock on my posted pictures, so I just added to note to avoid that lol
I still haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but the previous owner praised how well it cycled. I did not know about modifying other mags to fit this - will definitely look into it, thank you!!
