Okay the government can ban this one.

u/crasheralex 3d ago
It's an sks variant, it'll get banned too.

u/Benefit_Waste 3d ago
Believing that they’ll get banned is dumb
4
u/crasheralex 3d ago
IF they ban SKS's this will still be included as a variant.
1
u/One-Coffee-2621 3d ago
For sure IF it gets banned by name. However if someone more knowledgeable wants to chime in, hypothetically if I was to submit it to the RCMP and say it was modified beyond being able to be converted back to semi, would it be possible to get an exemption or designation for this particular piece? I imagine the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze and they'd say no matter what it's possible to convert it back to semi, but interesting in theory

u/crasheralex 3d ago
No because it began as an sks therefore it is and always will be an sks. Just like converted autos, you'd have to mill it out like an original semi but it doesn't matter becuase it began as a full auto

It would be interesting to see, in theory if this received a manual action designation and had proprietary mags with more than five rounds, could those mags be used on a regular SKS ala 10 rnd LAR15 mags or the conversion for the henry homesteader to take glock mags

Anything could happen with a government being dumb about gun control. We forgetting how many bolties and single actions got banned with that over 10,000 joules rule?

K31’s your sks:

Those bolt knobs aren't from a K31, they are from an older Swiss rifle. The K31 bolt knobs are metal, those are plastic.

Did they just remove the gas system?
4
u/One-Coffee-2621 3d ago
Pretty much
3
u/GreenCactus223 3d ago
Was it a hard delete or can I just put a new gas system in?
3
u/One-Coffee-2621 3d ago
I got it as is, but just ripping out the gas system wouldn't be that hard. However making it look purdy, welding the swiss charging handle and other little accoutrement, would make a reversal more pain than it's worth

Wait, are you serious? This is ACTUALLY real?
This is something that belongs on [r/CursedGuns](r/CursedGuns) or [r/CursedGunImages](r/CursedGunImages) for Brandon Herrera to review

I was talking to you in the other post about this a week or two ago! Glad to see it hands on!
It’s also neat because from Tenda’s images, it seemed like someone grafted a Swiss k11/31 straight pull assembly onto an SKS. Now that I see it up close, it’s just a Swiss k11 bolt handle welded onto an SKS bolt with the original SKS charging handle ground off and the gas system taken out.
I fuckin love this thing. Please show it shooting.

Yea, and honestly I'm surprised at the quality of the weld. Would've expected something more janky on a project like this. Will do as soon as I can get it out to the bush

So I actually bought something similar from Marstar less than a year ago. Had a set screw driven into the gas port, bronze brazing was used to fill the rest of the gas block, the piston was missing (but the gas tube was still present), and the bolt carrier had been modified to be flat on the front for some reason (was very uncomfortable to use).
Was quite the abomination.
I replaced the piston and bolt carrier, used a dremel to remove the bronze brazing, and when I soaked the set screw in penetrating oil and heated the gas block with a propane torch, firing a shot popped it right out.
Now it's a fully restored and functional Chinese SKS.
I've heard multiple stories about people trying to accurize SKS' by disabling the gas system on them. I don't think it makes much of a difference though.

This is how the russian-swiss kids looked like 9 months after the Suvorov campaign.

How is it compared to a regular bolt action rifle?
1
u/Status_Ticket5044 3d ago
It compares to Renegade or Maverick. I have a stock standard Type 56 SKS and a Renegade. I prefer them in their natural, purpose-built lanes.

Wouldn’t be too hard to revert this back but probably not worth doing. I was wondering how that bolt worked, pretty small connection to the rest of the charging handle but it will probably still hold.

I really hope they had a stock of otherwise unusable Swiss bolts to make this abomination... Otherwise they ruined two perfectly good rifles.
I am interested in how the thing shoots but can't imagine it's any better than a stock SKS because the barrel and bolt have not changed.
Is the top cover unfinished?
Does the bolt return to battery under spring pressure? I'm no gunsmith but I'd imagine SKS lockup would be iffy without the recoil spring.

u/One-Coffee-2621 3d ago
You'd hope, from everything I can see the SKS is numbers matching. I can only hope the gas system was beyond salvation. The top cover is unfinished, not sure if it was newly made or completely scoured. Everything functions as normal when cycled

Just googled this rifle and realized this is a one-off bubba job sold on consignment, I am now relieved that there isn't a shop somewhere cutting up Swiss rifles and SKS... Not sure why I thought this but I'm glad anyway.
Fire that thing with a string the first time you shoot it...

Do you know why the person who did this... did this? For what reason would someone do this?
