I would be shocked if the restricted sold at all given the events that have transpired since 2020

I hate being negative, but I cant see any reason to even buy a 16" restricted when an 18.6" unrestricted is an option.

2.6" of barrel and you can take your gun shooting and hunting at any appropriate location, vs 2.6" shorter and you can only legally take it to official ranges.

At least, before the ban, a rifle that was restricted by name had no negative or benefits to the barrel length aside from ballistics vs portability.

To give up woods and medium game privileges over 2.6" of barrel, it would need to be like half the price.

FWIW I used to be a restricted purchaser in similar situations (CZ bren, PS90, etc.) because I was a range shooter for 99% of my outings - no shootable crown land anywhere near Toronto relative to how close ranges are. I also wanted the gun in it's "intended" balance and configuration.

I paid a heavy price for that decision with each OIC

I'd usually agree but in this case I think its way more important to not have anything thats registered. I hate long barrels too but I am never buying anything where the goverment is in the know. All the power we have for non compliance comes from the lack of a registries. In fact that's the very reason we can buy NR without fear of bans.

As far as I'm aware there's a barrel length they gotta meet to make it legal. Idk if there's a difference between the restricted one or not but I've noticed that's the difference with that new FAL looking gun. The barrel is just a little longer so it's "legal"

For what its worth, importing the restricted via IRG comes out to something like 2200CAD after tax and shipping, which is cheaper than the NR version. That's pretty much the only reason I can think of.
