I regret not getting a 92FS. It was the first handgun I ever fired and I was surprisingly accurate with it as a rank newbie and arguably that experience made me explore getting a license.

I managed to pick up a Beretta 92F a few weeks before they announced the pistol ban for $600. The 92F is the version that appeared in Die Hard and Lethal Weapon before revisions to the design for the US M9 contract resulted in the FS revision of the civilian model that most people are familar with.
Mine only had a few hundred rounds through it. The original owner bought it in 1986, took it to the range once or twice and basically left it in the case for 25 years. It's my favourite and probably rarest firearm due to it's short production.

I got stoned to the bone, watched Die Hard and decided that I needed a 92FS. I got mine for a little over $600 at a shop an hour away.. The damn pistol was good as new too :)
Those were the days; transfer only took a day or two

I actually picked 92A1 when I had the chance for a Beretta since I thought it's better due to slightly larger sense.
Looking back, I feel FS would have been adequate as well.

Are those the surplus ones they sold everywhere before the transfer freeze?

I think that's the 92s you were referring to.
The only minor issues with them just the magazine is hard to find I think.
Other than the different release design, the pistol is still a beaut and I know some put custom grip on it to breath new life!

About 10 years ago, SFRC brought in a bunch of Police/Security Tarde-In Glock 22's for $450, you best believe I got one of those and a 9mm conversion barrel

I got to fire one of these at a local range, the action movie kid in me was losing his mind. Every. Single. Shell. Ejected back right into my face lol

Those two Beretta were the ones I was considering / heavily leaning towards as my first gun, but then I went to the range and shot a few different rental handguns just to see how they felt before committing. Ended up going with a Glock 17 as my first lol. They’re still very beautiful guns that I wish I picked up though
