Feets / Collection / My build Snagged a Drilling!

Always wanted a drilling, but was waiting until I found one with non-obsolete calibers. Safe to say, the second I saw this one, a JP Sauer and Sohn in 12GA-12GA (2-3/4”) and 222 Remington (and a scope no less), I snapped it up quick. Handloaded my first batch of 222 a couple hours later. Excited to test it out next week and see how it shoots!

A shotgun with a scope? What sorcery is this????!?!?

(I realize this is also a rifle, just hilarious to me that a shotgun has a scope)

Shotgun with a rifled barrel using sabots is rifle like accuracy up to about 200 yards. Many hunters have fed their families using a shotgun like this with a scope.

Wait till they find out about bolt action shotguns.

This is good info and I will consider this when hunting season comes....

I thought it looked goofy as hell but it was free with the gun so I figured why not haha. I’m thinking of putting it on see-through rings to use the scope for the rifle and the irons for the shot

Why, a fellow B.U.R.T. enjoyer in this sub! There are literally two of us!

He really is a unique character. God certainly didn't make two of him.

I have a friend looking to sell his drilling (different calibre for rifle portion), but is unsure on how to proceed.

May I ask how much you bought this for? Feel free to DM if you would rather keep it private! Thanks so much!

No worries! I don’t mind at all. This one, personally, was definitely undervalued. I picked it up for 899$ from intersurplus (usually these drillings are 2000$+) in which the description said cracked wood (it is cracked a little, but the cracks seem more cosmetic and are completely structurally sound). Intersuplus also has other drillings to compare fair value for other calibers and combos, in case your friend wants to bounce his price off theirs.

It will depend too on the caliber. If the rifle barrel is something like 222, 30-06, 6.5, 22 hornet etc, then it would probably be more valuable than one with a crazy obsolete caliber like 9.3, 8x57JRS etc. same with the shotgun barrels, if the chambers are only 2.5” instead of the standard 2.75”, then shootability and possibly value (unless it’s a high end gunmaker like an early Kreighoff) will go down.

Gunpost is also your friend in posting and selling second hand firearms. I’ve sold many on there.

Regardless, mine was way undervalued and I definitely found a rare score. Baseline usually is 1200-1500$ and go way way up from there

This is great information, thank you! I've forwarded this off to my friend. If I recall, the shotgun portion are 12ga and the rifle portion is 6.5 swede. It's not cracked but definitely looks worn. He has fired it successfully which is nice!

I'm familiar with Gunpost but I doubt he'd have much luck there. Intersurplus is a great idea though!

Congrats on your find!! Treat it well!

12GA-12GA 6.5 Swede is legendary (I reload for that caliber too for my Swedish Mauser, it’s awesome). If he does want to part with it, I may actually know someone interested in 12GA/6.5 Swede, so feel free to DM me if you wish (can’t post the transaction as a comment as it would violate the rules of this sub)

Give us a range report OP!

Also I have a 788 in .222. Took a few deer with it as kid. Totally useful caliber. Too bad about the ammo situation but congrats nonetheless! Very cool OP.

Absolutely I will! I’ll even post a video of firing it as well!

I’m actually happy about the ammo, since 222 is cheap to handload for and I just started handloading rifle rounds as of last week with 223 (I load straight wall pistol for antiques and lever actions mainly). So truthfully, the ammo is not a problem since the components are easy to get (surprisingly cheap), and I’m enjoying the new avenue of handloading at my disposal!

Let’s see that range action!?

Oh yeah, don’t worry I’ll be shooting this thing this week and posting the results

I am so keen to see how this shoots. Thanks OP!

No trouble at all! Stay tuned as I’ll be posting it shooting either middle or end of the week :)

I love these combo guns. I agree it is a shame they come in obscure calibres. The rare time I see one chambered in something I recognize they typically want 3k+ lol

I kick myself for passing on one once that was 12GA-12GA-30-06. That said, 222 Remington is cheap as hell to reload for, and the shotgun chambers of this one are 2.75” (usually I find they’re 2.5”), so I’m happy as can be and knew I’d regret it like I did the previous one if I passed on this one.

Intersurplus has another that’s 12GA-12GA-22 savage for like 1100$, which is also easy enough to reload for. That one was tempting too ) (but no scope sadly so I went with this one instead)

12 gauge sxs with .30-06 under barrel would be legendary.

Awesome!

Don't show Poly or she'll start banning guns that shoot 3 rnds/second.

“3 round mag caps are too high, and designed to kill the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time. Furthermore, this firearm is designed for a shooter to kill at long distance and short distance, giving a mass shooter too much utility. Women and children are not safe with assault style combination guns on the streets” (I can see the headline now).

Very cool! Even though there's also .222, a scope on a sxs 12 Ga still feels wrong

I’m thinking of putting see-through rings on it so at least I can use the irons with the shotgun barrels
