Buy recommendations Thoughts on Benelli Nova 20GA 26"

Hello,

Looking for a 20ga 26" shotgun for grouse and maybe even turkey. Came across this and wanted to get some thoughts on the benelli Nova. The price is right on budget.

Mine has taken a beating over the years and it works like a charm. The chamber isolation feature is super clutch as well for hunting applications. No complaints. It's definitely a buy once cry once purchase.

Tell me more about this chamber isolation feature. Is it just in case I dont want to load whats in the tube and switch to a different shell?

There's a button on the pump action that you can press down as you cycle it. What that does is activates the action without feeding a round in to the chamber letting you manually load a different shell on the quick or just leave the action open without feeding a round. Super useful.

Say you are out hunting turkey when it's also waterfowl and deer season. You have all your tags and documents for all of these. Instead of a turkey, a deer comes along. You can now quickly cycle the action back to eject your turkey load, slide in your preferred deer shell of choice and bring the action forward again without feeding a round from the tube. That puts you in place to bag a deer quickly.

Or say you take a stumble and end up taking a core sample in your barrel. You can now open the action to isolate your magazine tube, eject your potentially fouled shell from the chamber and quickly inspect the fouling without having to worry about fully unloading the tube or risk having a shell get fouled up during inspection.

These are just some scenarios. It's a nice unique feature to the Nova line.

Ok here's a thought. I can buy the one from bass for $750, if i buy it from the states because I want the mossy oak its $910 CAD plus I have to pay $250 for irunguns duty and then pay 8%GST. So almost $1250 for this.

I really want the mossy oak, its an extra $500 to get it shipped here. Can I justify the price by saying the camo is always a bit more expensive than the regular black one so instead of looking at it like a $500 increase it would be probably just a $300 increase to get a gun that you cant find in Canada?

hunting on foot or are you using a quad or sxs?
If running the trails looking for birds on a vehicle, do yourself a favor and go break-action.
by the time you get off and load a semi or pump action, chances are your target has fled into the scrub.
I found a break-action was the fastest action to prep if running the trails on a quad or sxs

Good point, I was looking for a single shot or an overunder but then I came across this and figured I could just use it for almost anything. I generally go truck hunting for grouse while moose hunting and going back to camp. They just sit there waiting for us so im not too worried about them running away.

Im torn between this and a single shot for the reason you just mentioned. What single shot do you recommend?

20ga cooey 84 or stoeger reuna… maybe even a baikal izh 94 in 410 if you can find one for single shot, but an sxs or over/under makes sense too

Edit: if you have deeper pockets henry makes a nice 20ga single shot, or if you have cash to burn some of the higher end sxs like cz bobwhite g2

Oh man, I love my .22 cooey. Just went down that rabbit hole. I found a nice 20ga cooey. Thanks for the heads up. Think ill get both

You mentioned the birds just stand there for ya... what kind of grouse in your area?
Im guessing Spruce - the only grouse i know too stupid to run away. Whenever i've been able to walk right up to them they were always spruce grouse

They literally stand there and have even walked up lol theres all kinds of grouse there not just spruce.
