What do I do? URGENT

Someone in my household was recently falsely accused of sexual assault. As part of their bail conditions, they are prohibited from possessing firearms, crossbows, and other weapons.

I own three recently prohibited firearms in my collection. Their lawyer has advised that the bail conditions may be considered breached simply because the firearms are in the home. Hopefully, the lawyer can have that condition clarified or amended. If not, I’ll need to transport the firearms to a trusted friend for storage.

What is the process for obtaining an Authorization to Transport (ATT/ATP) for recently prohibited firearms? Is it still possible to get one? I’d rather not participate in the buyback program.

Allow me to overshare and word vomit; I promise it's relevant.

In 2020, I caught my then gf cheating on me. I told her I was done and started packing my things. She blocks me from leaving our room and tells me "If you leave me, I will go to the police and tell them you hit my son"

I told her she was a lunatic and that if I ever was going to stay, I most certainly wouldn't be after that. I never laid a hand on that kid. I loved him as if he were my own. I was the only solid father figure he had, as his father was in jail for assaulting the boy's mother (in retrospect, I doubt the legitimacy of his verdict).

So anyways. I called her bluff, and by the end of september (about a week after the CCFR Freedom march in Ottawa) I was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Assault.

There were no witnesses. There was no evidence. Just the word of a vindictive woman who couldn't handle the consequences of her actions.

I spent 3 years in court during covid fighting tooth and nail to beat the charges against me. I had to house my firearms at my uncle's place due to my conditions. I had no clue how things would play out and if I'd ever be able to reclaim ownership of them. Ultimately, I was vindicated when my stepson finally took the stand and told the court his mother and grandparents made him say I hurt him. I came so close to having my life ruined over a false accusation.

The idea that people only get arrested if there's enough evidence is a pipe dream. You would hope the system works that way, but sadly it doesn't. In many cases, the arresting department is more concerned with the wellbeing of the victim than they are of the burden of proof. I do understand why they operate that way.. If this situation had been somebody else who was actually guilty of doing those things, I would expect nothing less than their arrest and eemoval from their victim's life. After experiencing what I went through, I am far less quick to judge. I leave that up to the courts.

Yeah some people have absolutely no idea how many innocent people face the court and that some people who are evee innocent be found guilty and later down the line we realise they were innocent. It's really frustrating how people thinks it's a perfect system with zero mistakes.
