Shooting .22 LR Ammo Test - Henry Lever Action

I tested four different .22 LR rounds in my Henry Lever Action to see which one it preferred.

Test setup

  • Distance: 50 yards
  • Front rest and rear bag
  • 10-shot groups

Ammunition tested

  • CCI Blazer (included because it won my bulk ammo test)
  • CCI Mini-Mag
  • Eley Club
  • Eley Force

I was starting to lose hope in the Henry at 50 yards until I tried out the Eley Force

Good call. I’ll grab a box or 2 of these and give them a go

Good to know. They’re on the list.
Anytime I think a 22 round is expensive I compare it to shooting centerfire and get over it pretty quick

And yet the test shows very clearly that some ammo is better than others and that one brand in particular is quite accurate.

Even with premium ammo it's still cheaper than centerfire. In the $75 to $150 / brick range are a lot of choices for really really good ammo.

Yeah, bulk ammo is not going to perform outside of 50m typically.

But when you start pushing 200m+ with a 22 buying good ammo is worth it. That or doing speed shooting like uspsa steel challenge where reliability is most important.

I know what you mean. I’m actually converting my CZ 457 from 22 WMR to 22 LR to test this out.
I’ll mostly use it as a 22 mag but figured it was worth a try for a couple hundred bucks

my 10/22 will put a full 10 rounds inside a 1” circle at 50 yards with cheap Aguila ammo..
