News / Politics / Activism Erdogan gives every Nato leader a gun as farewell gift
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/07/08/erdogan-nato-summit-fun-keir-starmer-donald-trump/I really hope the PM decides to take this for a spin at the range and decides the Secretary of State for Nature should stick to the Nature lane.
I doubt anything will come from this but it sure would be incredible if all it took was this gifted revolver to change the course of gun legislation in this country.

I had no issue with the Turkish beretta 92fs clone and that was a long time ago

Carney - " we need to be more like Europe"
Canadians " Can we have sensible European gun laws like finland and switzerland?"
Carney - "No not like that"

Too bad it's likely to be decommissioned at best. Fun fact for another leader there is Trump can't legally own a firearm as he's a convicted felon.

Does Carney have an RPAL? If not he's a criminal the moment he touches down on canadian soil.

Fun fact: he got it deactivated by the RCMP
Global Affairs Canada said in a statement to reporters travelling with Carney that the gun has been turned over to the RCMP. " The gift in question was provided to every NATO leader and is being transferred to the possession of the RCMP for decommissioning."

They don't need guns, as they have their own police force to protect them from the consequences of their actions.

Everything else aside, did my ears deceive me or did MC not say (paraphrasing) that “this gun is illegal in Canada”? On its surface that appears to demonstrate ignorance of the law. What am I missing?

That's a wonderful and thoughtful gift. Being a nation leader is a dangerous job. Better stay strapped. They're also timeless and hold their value, generally.

If he didn’t give it back many of the same people criticizing him now would be criticizing him for hypocritically owning a restricted firearm. We are well past the time where we have intelligent political discussions in this country.

He didn't give it back, he took and gave it to the RCMP who will deactivate it and probably put in some museum. Better then Starmer refusing it and leaving it in Turkey lol.

A good gift from a ally. Shame it couldn’t be used to bolster his personal opinions I do wonder if he is more forgiving to firearms compared to our last goofball and is stick in a hard place right now. The way he talked at least in press briefings I seen so far seems as if he is trying to skirt around choosing a side

Man I pray that little theory is right . The problem I have is he has said some shifty things other times.

They’re in NATO
yes they’re an ally. The only NATO member who isn’t is the yanks

I guess the reason I say that is that they supported Al-Nusra in Syria throughout the 2010s.
