Feets / Collection / My build Do any other Stowaway owners have mods they recommend?
I made a grip that holds glock mags, a bigger cocking knob and a stock that holds the barrel and nut when transporting it. Does anyone have any other ideas? I’m thinking a fore-grip will be next.
Having so much fun with this rifle. It’s so light and so much fun to shoot.

Yeah they are excellent. They definitely stick out at the range especially with the grip mag.

I got mine at Marstar. They are the only importer as far as I know.
Highly recommend it. It’s a fun rifle.

Sounds like you have the add ons covered.
Look at wetstoning the trigger assembly/sear. I did this, and it made the trigger feel way more predictable and less grainy in the take up before firing.

u/Joels-workshop 15d ago
That’s a great idea. You should make a video on how to do it as a lot of stowaway owners would love to see that.

have you shot it suppresesd with subsonics? im curious just how quiet subsonic 5.7 is out of a bolt action. or if 9mm would be quieter
3
u/Joels-workshop 15d ago
I wish I had access to suppressors but I do not. Thank you RCMP.

u/Shrapnel3 15d ago
I didnt know that.. RIP
I didnt read the full description and thought that your barrel nut holder was a suppressor1
u/Joels-workshop 9d ago
Ahh I wish. It does look like one.
If start selling to the US I’ll make a v2 of the stock so it can hold suppressors.

Two quick questions:
- how is the accuracy, particularly with the short barrel?
- does the short barrel have a big impact on velocity?
TIA for any info. This is such a crazy design.

u/Joels-workshop 15d ago
Great questions. I have only shot the short barrel at short pistol distances. I still have to stretch it out to try and see how it is.
Regarding speed, another great question, I have a chronograph ordered to get some info on that.
I’m also hoping to get my hands on a 16” 9mm barrel and a 5” 5.7 barrel so I can do some testing with all 4 barrels and give you all some data to help you decide what barrel and cartridge to buy.
I’ll post here again but you can find more timely updates on my IG @joels.workshop or YT at the same name. YT is just more picky about showing 3d printed firearms stuff so I’m been using IG for updates.

Thanks. Can the barrels be swapped out to change calibres? Or is a larger conversion required? Having this rifle with two dif calibre barrels would be crazy.
2
u/Joels-workshop 14d ago
Yes the barrels can be swapped easily.
The only other swap is the bolt which comes out easily as well.
Currently it is available in 5.7x28 and 9mm but rumour is there are more cartridges coming.
I am working on a video for YouTube comparing the barrels. Trying to get a hold of all 4 barrels to test them and help people decide what to buy.
I also have an unboxing video coming.

9mm is designed for a 4-5" barrel, and OPs model has a 7" barrel. Velocity and accuracy are fine.
1
u/Joels-workshop 9d ago
It’s a 5” barrel. I got the 5.7x28 in the 16” barrel as I figured that’s closer to what the round was designed for in the p90.

Sorry - one more question. This looks like a LH bolt. Is that the standard configuration or is RH available as well.
2
u/TescoValueSoup 15d ago
It’s only LH bolt, but Dark MTN say this is intentional as you can cycle and feed it staying shouldered as a RH shooter

u/Joels-workshop 9d ago
Yes it’s pretty natural to use as a righty. Your right hand stays on the grip and your left controls everything.
The GripMag is super necessary imo as the. You don’t have to have a hand full of rounds and can just grab them from the mag quickly. The mag also comes out easily so you can swap in a new one quickly as well.
I’ll post a video soon of me shooting it.

That looks so sweet! I’m curious what cartridges you got with what barrel lengths? I did the 9mm 5” and the 5.7 16”.
I wish I could share the files. I usually do for simpler stuff I make but these have taken me over a month to perfect so I’m going to sell them.
They will be available for order starting next week on SkeinOutdoorSupply.com.

What I keep wondering is... how is the short barrel legal? is the gun not shorter than 26"? the short barrel kit is a mod only? not sold that way from oem? so if you shorten the gun, and the gun is now less than 26", is it not illegal? looks sweet though 👍

It's a US-made firearm, so it caters to US gun laws where a rifle has to have a barrel of at least 16", so it's not an SBR.
They have a handgun version with no stock, but that's illegal now. We're allowed to have the short barrel despite the stock, because manually-operated firearms do not have a minimum barrel length in Canada like semi-autos do (18.5").

It is sold that way by the manufacturer, but it’s a way for the store to juice you for another $400 because no one wants the long barrel

Check out the FRT.
This firearm is normally Non-Restricted unless affected by the following conditions:1) by combining a barrel from a licensed firearms manufacture that is less than 406mm (16.0") in length and a receiver/frame fitted with a pistol grip only, this firearm may be deemed a "handgun" and therefore "RESTRICTED" under the definition of "restricted firearm" in Part III/Firearms and Other Weapons of Section 84 (1) (a) of theCriminal Code of Canada. "Handgun" means a firearm that is designed, altered or intended to be aimed and fired by the action of one hand, whether or not it has been redesigned or subsequentlyaltered to be aimed and fired by the action of both hands.2) "a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise" and therefore "Restricted" under the definition of "restricted firearm" in Part III/Firearms and Other Weapons of Section 84 (1) (c) of the Criminal Code of Canada.3) by combining a barrel that has been altered to less than 457mm (18.0") in length by a non-licensed firearms manufacturer (cottage industry, individual or gunsmith) regardless of whether the shotgun has a pistol grip or conventional stock, this firearm is "PROHIBITED" and subject to the definition of a "prohibited firearm" in PartIII/Firearms and Other Weapons of Section 84 of the Criminal Code of Canada. "Prohibited firearm" means a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or (ii) is 660mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length.
TLDR:
You can’t take the stock off or it becomes a handgun. You can’t make the stock telescope or fold. You can only use barrels from a licensed manufacturer (so the barrels from Dark Mountain are ok).

What you can do is machine the aluminum rod down and drill/tap it to attach a piece of pic to it (which is what dark mountain arms do themselves), and attach a different fixed stock. Because that piece of rod is f-ugly
Which is what I've done.2
u/Livid_sumo 15d ago
I would love to see a picture, the stowaway is just about the love of the game

u/Joels-workshop 15d ago edited 15d ago
You can see how they have their pistol with brace model on their website too.
https://darkmountainarms.com/stowaway/#models
Wouldn’t be too difficult to find a piece of round stock , drill and tap it for the threads and a pic rail.

Good point, I think it should be legal as long as it doesn’t fold or telescope and retains the same length?
But I am not a lawyer.

Just for shits and giggles you should put a Vortex razor or a nightforce lpvo on it
