The fun thing about firearms collecting is its wholly personal. Whether strays follow you home every time you go to a shop, you were passed down a relatives collection or you just own one grail gun. It's ultimately comes down to what makes you happy.
I myself run a variety of milsurp that I enjoy, a couple fudd guns, and a single shot 22lr I got from my grandfather that will go on to teach my son.
The goal is to be happy if it doesn't make you happy move it along and get something that does.

Wish the milsurp supply didn't feel like it dried up decades ago.
Still the odd find but they're basically new gun prices.

The deals are still out there, I get most of mine now through gun shows. When you go around and talk to the small table guys good deals can made especially on the last day.

I dont like the tactical stuff I like the wood. Synthetic just feels wrong

u/CanadianMultigun 16d ago
Glad you enjoy what you have, personally I´d get some more modern items which are significantly more capable and easy to use.
SKS is good for deer hunting at an appropriate range, good on you for using it.

Thing with the newer stuff is its out of my price range. I like picking up a new gun every once in a while for cheap in random gun stores thats how I got all of them except the SKS and my winchester model 37

Dont listen to the haters in here. If the guns make ya happy, then they make ya happy. Are there better guns out there? Maybe, but these ones will do ya just fine.
Im sorry to hear your savage 64 isn't doing well for you, those guns seem very hit and miss (though often miss) when it comes to quality. The one i have in my safe has been doing well for me, with the only issue being, its picky with some ammo.

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
Ive seen very mixed reviews for the 64 as well, tried different ammo nothing works for me. Was the first gun I bought when I got my pal and left a bitter taste of newer guns for me. Never had issues with any of my old guns other then the SnM shotgun having failure to feed every once in a while

Yeah, i do consider myself lucky when it comes to the 64. Though i like mine, i'd suggest a 10/22 over it anyday.

Old stuff is cheap I love a gun that goes bang and doesn't cost more then my mortgage

u/TopLemon3678 16d ago
I like it/10, I wanted to get a 64 but I already have a Winchester made Cooey 64B, ended up with a Savage Revel and am happy with both, I don't have anywhere with some distance to shoot yet so that opinion might change lol

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
Do not get a 64 it is the single worst thing ive shot. Failure to feed and failure to extract guaranteed every other bullet its crazy

u/TopLemon3678 16d ago
I like my Cooey 64 too much to get one just like it but newer. I did find though that it mattered what I ran through it. Remington Thunderbolt's worked like magic, no issues ever. Federal Champions turned it into a straight pull bolt action, and most recently I think Winchester M22's may be using too much powder because the bolt was getting jammed behind my 20rd mags. It was also super fuckin hot so for science I wanna clean it up and go again cuz it was only after I reloaded with M22's that there was an issue, but not Thunderbolt's.

Mines a savage maybe thats why it sucks. I've tried different ammo never really worked well even with semi auto specific ammo.
1
u/TopLemon3678 16d ago
Maybe, but the crew in Lakefield did wonders making my Revel, love that gun.

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
Mines made in Canada too makes me feel bad about trash talking it but its made me miss so many great shots im frustrated at it which is why it gets the no shoot treatment

u/TopLemon3678 16d ago
I guess it comes down to what tool for what job. I only really use my semi for plinking and haven't tried it past 15 meters. But I also have a couple bolt actions I wanna take out and see how they hold up.

Literal weapons of war.

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 10d ago
According to the liberal government I could probably overtake Quebec as a whole with the SKS and about 8 rounds of ammunition

I like the old stuff! Keeps us fed and the livestock safe without costing and arm and a leg

Meh

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
To each their own! I just like the older guns not a big fan of newer synthetic guns

Why do you want it to be rated? Are you insecure?

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
Not particularly I just like sharing my passion with fellow firearm owners that I assume have the same passion and statt discussions about these firearms with people interested in them or have the same ones

Canadian Tire Catalogue / 10.

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
None came from Canadian tire fortunately. Smith and Wesson shotgun is actually pretty rare no clue how or why its here

3/10.

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
What is it missing?
-3
u/MoosedMilk 16d ago
A Single decent firearm mostly.
6
u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
I mean the SKS is a pretty solid deer hunter. Winchester is good for moose or bear and the Smith is my go to turkey gun
-9
u/MoosedMilk 16d ago
Using a SKS to hunt in the big 26 is definitely the choice of a unethical hunter.
9
u/thecanadiantommy 16d ago
Not with the proper ammo, i have hunting soft point ammo in 7.62
-3
u/MoosedMilk 16d ago
I think youre confusing ethical with possible.
Taking a iron sighted inherently inaccurate rifle to hunt animals is not a ethical choice in the world we live in.
9
u/thecanadiantommy 16d ago
2 moa with iron sights is good enough for shooting deer if you don't stretch it distance wise, if it's so inaccurate for you maybe you should look at the shooter.
-4
u/MoosedMilk 16d ago
You thinking the SKS is a 2moa gun shows that you dont have a fundamental understanding behind statistical relevant group sizes for dispersion.
I also wouldnt take a 2 MOA gun out in the woods to hunt with. But hey if wounding animals is your thing by all means.
4
u/thecanadiantommy 16d ago
I don't think it i do 2 moa ( yes at the range in optimal conditions ) with sellier and bellot sp. I grant you i don't do 2 moa everytime but i am accurate enough for the thick brush i hunt at 50-75 yards maybe. Never wounded an animal.

7.62x39 is pretty comparable with 30-30 ballistically and I’ve never heard anyone say 30-30 is unethical to use.
6
u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
Depends what you shoot. If you use norinco fmj sure but a well placed hollow point does the trick

2.8/10
Have you tried buying something that's accurate? Or are you dead-set on collecting firewood?
1
u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago
I buy the ones that I like and take them to the range. The only ones I really hunt with is the winchester the Smith for turkey and the SKS for deer sometimes or pest control for my farm

u/StrathsAreBack 16d ago
More firewood then firearms.
2.5/10
4
u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago

-3
u/StrathsAreBack 16d ago

u/Awkward_Cheetah7519 16d ago

8/8 for the amount of guns alone lol but good on ya, you have variety and you're happy. Who cares what anyone else thinks?
