Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Not in Canada for sure. Hate to break it to you but my turning in of the guns had zero impact of the Liberal party's plans

You are literally giving them exactly what they want. You've fed into their crabs in a bucket setup.

You are giving them the data points they're thirsting for

Absolutely clueless take.

And what exactly would change if I decided to eat the loss instead?

One less person supporting the program. One less data point to justify said program.

It's not that complicated. You sold out.

So nothing would change. Got it

If you can't see how it doesn't change things then you bought into the fear mongering.

Given you decided to sell out, it's pretty clear cut.

You have yet to elaborate on what positive impact would result from me keeping the guns until I inevitably have to turn them in at a later date for $0

They had 13 guns turned in for their "pilot" program. I don't think they're overly concerned with the numbers - frankly they probably wanted minimal participation in the "buyback" period. Now they can say "oh well we offered comp and you turned it down, now you will get nothing"

It's called having principals. By standing firm in your convictions with other owners, you expose how poorly executed this is. By submitting your stuff, all you've done is prove them right.

Mass non compliance is the only way to preserve firearms ownership.

don't think they're overly concerned with the numbers - frankly they probably wanted minimal participation in the "buyback" period.

And by submitting to the program, all you've done is support it and allow them to use your weakness as further justification.

"Look how successful this was" is what they'll say when you use your legally purchased property as a photo op.

Now they can say "oh well we offered comp and you turned it down, now you will get nothing"

And all you've done is enable them to do that.

If you can't understand why mass non compliance works, then you've already bought into their system.

You clearly refuse to acknowledge this point and you're just searching for justification to make you feel better about your own poor decision making.

Go spend you sordid silver, you got it because everyone else decided to hold the line while you buckled.

So if I didn't turn mine in, they would realize the error in their ways and scrap the ban? or are we living in a fantasy where 0 people turned in their guns so they were forced to alter course?

I only care about tangible results. I do not care about being able to yell into the void about my principals on guns

Go spend you sordid silver, you got it because everyone else decided to hold the line while you buckled.

Piss poor job of "holding the line" given that hundreds of guns get banned every year

If you can't understand why your participation is directly feeding into their scheme and how it's problematic then you haven't been paying attention.

Use whatever justification you need to help you sleep at night.

I'm clearly not going to change your mind based on how pressed you are. You're grasping at any kind of reasoning to justify your lack of principal.

I'm not gonna bother necromanicing this thread further.

Simple fact is, you buckled and sold out at everyone else's expense. Hope it was worth it.
