Misc Did I get the same ammo in 2 different boxes?
I recently picked up some score low recoil slugs and high velocity slugs but when I opened them I noticed that the brass neck or whatever ya call it are the same length compared to my challenger target slugs where the brass neck is super short, so I’m just wondering if they’re made like that or if they put high velocity slugs into a low recoil slug box.

I've used both those slugs. And no, you did not get the same ammo. The high velocity is 1550 fps and if I recall, low recoil are only 1300fps that's about a 16% increase in speed, and it's very noticable at the range.
If you want to go hunting with your shotgun, get the high velocity. If you're just blasting slugs at the range, only buy your low recoil slugs. Your shoulder, wallet, and barrel will all thank you.

its probably cheaper for them to keep the line set up the same way and just change the charge for the slugs rather than stop it and swap out the tooling for shorter brass.
when it comes to shot shells for clay the amount of brass to account for becomes more realistic for the end cost profit margins/shelf cost to consumers. I only see a couple slugs getting shot a time at the club but when its clay its 100's of not 1000's if there's an event.

My range only allows slugs for targets but I was thinking the same thing probably just cheaper for them to keep the shell the same and change the powder load

As far as I'm aware the only thing the look of the shell effects is how it looks. There's no standard brass length or colour for different types of shells.
Is it possible they're the same? Yes, accidents happen, but I'd need to see more than the outside of the shell to even start asking that question.

probably not, shells are shells, Score Likely just used the conponents on hand to make the ammo, in both cases, olivr coloured shells with High Brass bases. It just means its harder for you to differentiate which is which on Ammo types, Best to start reloading your own ammo so you dont confuse your Door Breaching Slugs for your Rubber Ducky Shot.

If you look down them from the top are the slugs sitting at different heights in the sleeve?

High brass and low brass shells are a hold over from back when cases were made of paper. The ignition of the powder would burn tiny holes in the side of the case causing it to be unreloadable. Modern day plastic shells don’t have this issue and some company’s have tried full plastic shells with no metal at the bottom with limited commercial success. High brass shells have no bearing on how much powder or power a shell has and it’s more of an aesthetic choice. High brass shells just look badass.

Yes. Same ammo different cardboard box. Shell colour and brass size has nothing to do with the actual ammo. Target ammo is just stamped as cheaply as you can.
