So hypothetically someone were to have a lower or full wx-mcr with a ruined upper if they'd be looking to get rid of it by chance. I got a MS- mcr because I heard the metals were better in the receiver. Now I'm sad I didn't realize what I missed out on. So hypothetically of course if someone had a ruined or deactivated mxmcr I don't know where much else to look

The upper receiver isn't a controlled item, you can still buy them legally, and iirc the WS-MCR lower is dimensionally compatible with WK 180c uppers as well.

Isn’t the lower the only serialized part? If the upper isn’t the firearm then it’s just parts no? I can buy AR barrels and guards etc at any time

So what about using an upper? If you could in theory mount it on a serialized lever action lower to have a Henry supreme type build, I've always assumed that would be legal? If you could find a semi lower that fit all the legal requirements, would that technically be fine too?

I don't know much about the Henry Supreme, so I don't know which part of it is serialized, but changing the operation of a firearm (in this case lever action to semi-auto... if the trigger disconnects until released after firing) is a huge, untested legal grey area, so if you got caught with it you'd need quite a bit of money for a lawyer, whether it ends up being legal or not.

If you're confident that you can avoid making an accidental full-auto, and you feel like being a guinea pig, who am I to stop you.

That being said, if the upper of the Henry Supreme is the serialized bit, then you're SOL, cuz combining an unserialized upper with an unserialized lower (if you could even make it work) would be manufacturing, so it would be illegal.

Actually I was thinking the other way, taking a formerly semi auto upper with no real use anymore, and attaching it to a lever style lower to make it into a lever action, so at least the upper can be salvaged if someone had a banned ar-180 variant. Because if it was legal, then a company could in theory make serialized lowers. Not that I expect anyone to, but it's an idea.

I was also wondering if someone could make a serialized semi auto lower that was somehow legally distinct from an ar-180 lower, and functioned with these uppers, if that would qualify as a non prohibited gun. Because I'm not entirely sure how they determine what's prohibited or not. It seems to be based more on name or looks than anything else. See the R9. There doesn't always seem to be any technical criteria used to make these determinations, and there's still legal semis in the country with more are coming in. Which as we've all been wondering, what even is the point then. These people are not very competent. Anyways, just some curious thoughts

Without changing how the upper mates with a lower, there's a good chance it would be made prohibited as a "variant", but who knows.

Interesting. I did go through this stuff years ago when they started banning things, but I kinda forget it all now. Good time for a refresher I guess. Well anyways thanks for answering my questions!
